Open Road Tolls (ORT) as separate segments

Hi.

Currently, Open Road Tolls in NH are not mapped separately from the regular tolls. This results in a single possible calculated route through two real possible routes, which inevitably leads to inaccurate time-to-destination calculations. These inaccuracies are probably more pronounced when the regular tolls are backed up due to congestion.

I spoke with leadership familiar with the Open Road Toll lanes in PA, where they are mapped as separate lanes, and they’ve had great success with that model. I received great advice on the right way to make the changes.

I’m proposing mapping the “Express” (ORT) lanes in Hooksett and in Hampton. Before I do, are there any concerns?

Sound like a great idea to me. Especially if it helps with routing times.

I think this is a great idea! No concerns. I’ll even help map them if needed! I think you meant Hampton and Hooksett for towns though.

Right, thanks. Edited to correct.

This seems like a good idea to me

Is there some way to tell Waze not to navigate through ORT segments? Hypothetically if there is congestion at the tolls (which is the benefit to mapping ORT) and you don’t have the E-Z Pass, or can’t go through the ORT for some reason, your travel time would be off and potentially a better route wouldn’t be suggested if Waze is sending everyone through the ORT.

I believe the way it works now is EZ Pass NH and those which can can use it in NH have a Time Base Based restriction to use the ORT lanes versus the old method of just a single toll flag. Also for NH there are signs for people to pay for tolls within a certain time if they don’t have a transponder. Additionally in the Waze app you can add Toll Transponders via the Navigation section of Settings/options.

Derrydrivin-- I’m not sure I understand your question. As nhmapguy demonstrates, there are settings in the app to tell Waze which toll transponders you have (default=no transponders). If you have no transponder set up in Waze, Waze should never suggest the ORT lanes. If you have the correct transponder, and the regular tolls are faster, Waze will suggest the regular tolls.

Have we addressed your concerns?

@Moogonk. Yes Thank you. I was unaware of that setting option.

Just drove through the Hampshire ORT. Works like a charm, thanks.

I will implement in Maine as these lanes are opened this year.

I will PM you with some tips that someone gave me.
