And of course, there is no way to manually link a PLA to a PP after-the-fact. You can only create a new PLA from a PP.
Which this really doesn’t “link” them together. It just creates a new AP with some of the data copied form the PP for “expedited” editing of the PLA.

I would like to propose a change to the current locking standards for PLA.

My thinking related to this:
-Many states have the minimal locking level for a place as L2, which then would result in a L2 PP and a L3 PLA
-We have become more accustom to the usage of PLA at this time and they are becoming a more normal part of our daily editing practice
-And mostly the most common occurrence I have seen with poor PLA is from new Rank 1 editors creating new PLA without names, or duplicate PLA since they had the layer off. The prevalence of MP suggesting the need of a PLA has created a sea of bad PLA from new editors that these locking standards do not protect against so I feel the locking level doesnt achieve the desired effect with minimum of L3 so we should treat them like the corresponding place (unless somehow we can convince staff to restrict PLA to R2+)

It’s been a little over 6 years since the last reply in this topic. The guidance in Wazeopedia still says:
However, I’m seeing some people (particularly in the South East Region) say that they just add noise and don’t add much value. In Orlando I don’t see many PLAs in general. I’m sure the routing in Waze has changed quite a bit since the last reply. Additionally, most of Orlando (and Central Florida) is very suburban with strip malls that offer parking right by the business.
What is the latest guidance and best practice for adding PLAs? It hasn’t felt like they should be added to all lots.
It is kind of a regional thing but for the most part, we aren’t really encouraging to add them all since the parking lot function in the app never really did what they said.
And now the app uses the “parking” flag on a place to let drivers know that there is onsite parking, so the actual PLA is not needed anymore on most restricted parking lots.
There probably needs to be some official discussion and the Wazeopedia updated at some point.
FWIW, this is exactly what I told a new editor a couple weeks ago. I support updating the wiki to that effect.

Before Waze rolled out the new PLA feature several years back, the community had established careful guidelines limiting the mapping of parking lots to just locations accessible to the general public for general parking. But Waze’s “map everything” PLA rollout made it necessary to gut that careful, limited guidance, and replace it with the aggressive guidance we have today.
Contributors to that 2019 thread acknowledged that Waze seems to have lost interest in its “PLAs everywhere” concept, at least for the time being. But there was also recognition that it would be awkward to try to restore the old guidance, now that so many editors have created so many PLAs that would suddenly all become noncompliant if the guidance were reverted. So the PLA campaign seems to be in a kind of unwritten, indefinite, suspended animation.
