Parking Lot area wiki published

Here is the Wiki page for the new Parking Lot Area project:

https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Places/Parking_lot/USA

It is not completely live yet, as the PLAs will visibly show up in the client. So please study and be ready, and we will advise when to move forward.

You can correct MPs if necessary, but don’t make that a primary goal just yet.

Thanks and we will keep everyone updated on the project here.

Current PLAs that are already on the map should be updated to the new standard, and locked to 3.

The guidance above will be announced one the features mentioned roll out to production WME. Also they specifically say not to create any new PLAs for now, which means we should not be correcting any “Parking Lot input as point” MPs yet. Thi is explicitly stated in the Wazeopedia MP page as well.

What should be done with the mapping of roads inside a PLA? Should the PLA be cleaned of roads? Since many parking lots have their internal roads mapped

Absolutely not, they should be mapped appropriately

For what was previously shown as a mall / shopping center, now that area has to be split into a PLA and distinct area for the buildings themselves?

Will PLA’s be intended for navigational purposes (i.e. the destination) instead of the shopping center itself? For example, does a fairground now get broken into distinct places for the fairground itself, PLA #1…PLA#8?

Any explanation of what these changes are trying to accomplish (i.e. better visibility in the app, improved navigation because of …?)

Thanks!

Yes the idea is to split off the parking into a separate area from the main place, named appropriately to associate it with the place. The client app will offer parking option and navigate directly to them when you choose a place. HOWEVER for the time being please do not create any new PLAs, until the new UI is rolled out to the client so they are hidden from view. For now use this guidance only for fixing up existing PLAs which are already areas on the map.
