Things I would like to see on a page like this would be:
History - Why did the project get created.
Map Raid event - What happened in the Map Raid.
Going forward - What do editors need to consider when either updating new roads or adjusting current ones.
I wasn’t sure if someone had already started one.
It looks like the Google doc has most of the contents to build the page.
I know the SW Region has a section on Falcon that could be added/used in the page.
I’ll add it to my list unless someone wants to take it on.
I just sent a PM to HillsSnackBar to gauge current interest in continuing with that work.
After I posted this and continued to review the Falcon Map Raid guide, I realized we likely need to focus on changing the pages that need updates for each element of what Falcon has changed. Maybe many of those changes have already been done as I have not reviewed a lot of the older pages. It might be good to still have a Falcon page as a transition summary for older map editors or editors who have dropped out for the last year. Many of the changes from Falcon spread to so many areas that I think, as a few others have already proposed, we might want to create the page as subpages for each section that can be transcluded into each of the appropriate main pages affected and also transcluded into a single Falcon summary page.
It would be good to have the older sections indicate the change to prior guidance as some of those changes have been done for as long as I have been editing, so it would be good to have an Mbox of some kind point out the Falcon driven change.
I can create a custom Mbox with a common message that the upcoming content was changed as a result of the Falcon project. I could even include a second image with the Mbox to include the Falcon icon to help editors associate the change with other Falcon changes.
It would be a definite benefit to have a Falcon section. I’ve sent that Google page out to a couple of new editors who’ve been wondering what Falcon was.
I like the idea of a page summarizing the Falcon-necessitated changes to guidance, though I’m not sure it’s necessary or prudent to do a bunch of transclusion and other wiki-fu here.
I do believe the most pertinent wiki pages and sections (geometry sections on Interchanges and At-grade connectors, Divided and un-divided highways on Best map editing practice, maybe others I’m forgetting) were updated around the time of the raid.
I would agree with having a stand-alone Falcon page summarizing everything. As tenetienne mentioned, I’ve seen a number of newer editors asking what it is/was.
I think the just the basics are ok to include in a Falcon page-
History - Why did the project get created.
Map Raid event - What happened in the Map Raid.
Going forward - What do editors need to consider when either updating new roads or adjusting current ones.
I think what we do not want, is add any editing guidance on the falcon page, that guidance is other places where the guidance should be. The falcon page can steer to those places. The wiki becomes a huge tangled web when we start adding pages with the same guidance in different places. Even with transcluding, when things change there can be conflicting pages and that is not helpful.
Much of this draft has actual guidance, instead of the guidance being on the falcon page there should just be links to geometry, interchanges, AGC, best map editing practices, etc… sections of the wiki
