Truly sad news, our PA SM Erik Hirner (unlimited1808) passed away due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Details can be found here and here.
Erik has been editor since July 2014 and was promoted to PA SM in November 2015.
Sorry to hear about this sad news. He will be missed. You never know what will happen, he was just driving into work. His family will be in our prayers.
I think Erik was passionate about everything he did, and he certainly held strong opinions.
I’m going to miss his skill, enthusiasm, and energy and his willingness to analyze details thoroughly to get to a resolution. I’ll also miss swapping meal planning ideas.
My thoughts and prayers to his family, close friends, and everyone whose back he ever had.
Very sorry to hear this sad news.
Made a small GoFundMe donation for his family.
If all can make even a small donation, it can help them out.
The Great Lakes has announced this as well in Discord.
Tragic - I recall first finding and introducing Erik to the Waze community and echo voludu2’s thoughts on the passion he brought to editing. I’ll miss talking to him both about Waze and more personal topics. My thoughts are with everyone he touched and to his family and dear friends.
I’ll also echo others regarding Erik’s opinions, but I never doubted passion was driving those opinions. It was obvious from whatever discussion Erik was involved in. I can still remember his unique GHO avatar suddenly becoming active as he was about to enter the conversation, especially when I was a new editor. I learned a lot from those discussions, and appreciate all the help (and unlock requests along the way).
He will certainly be missed. Prayers for him, family, and friends.
OMG! This is soooo awful. I am shocked. Those of you will remember me as a former PA state manager. I helped Erik get his start and helped him get noticed by the higher ups as I saw how good and especially how dedicated he was to Waze.
What’s even more ironic is just a few minutes ago (literally), before I saw the news, I wrote him about getting myself back into editing, as I developed Cancer and am about to go through chemo and radiation…
I am shocked beyond belief at this news. He was a good online friend and a dedicated professional. I will miss him…
