The points are being pulled from the server.
Your new points for the day have to be processed and then they will appear on your phone as well. Give it about 24 hours.
Make sure that you have a data connection while driving so that all your data is sent to the servers properly.
You should see all the points you accumulated within 24 hours… if you don’t please let us know.
Thanks & welcome
Isn’ there any kind of caching inside the service which caches my route when I’m driving and not data connection is available?
There is, but currently it is limited to a few minutes.
We are working on improving this time frame so the GPS data doesn’t get lost. However, in order to save the data (now / in the future) you will have to re-establish a data connection before shutting off waze.
I just jumped up into the top 100. Is there a list somewhere that shows who has how many points?
The top 5 are on the main web page. How many points did it take you to get into the 100’s?
Not sure, had to drive to Miami the other day and accrued 32,000 points and jumped to #80.
Wow, quite impressive!
I’m still earning points, but my ranking has disappeared. At the top of my dashboard, I see “Rank, last updated: ?” and at the bottom, “Your Ranking: No Ranking.”
I’m wondering if this is because I had to reinstall my iPhone client (accidentally un-checked it in iTunes, causing it to be removed) or something on the site itself.
Assuming you are using the same user name, nothing should change.
We’ll need check this…
Hello,
“Rank, last updated: ?” is just the last date your stats were updated. It is inactive for now (hence the ‘?’). We’re working on it.
You’re stats still update, it is just an indication (that does not work).
“Your Ranking: No Ranking.” should be fixed now (please post again if not).
Thanks,
Itamar
What is the point of the … Points…what do we gain from this? is there a way we can “cash” them in, or is it just for fun? like a ranking system for people to see how much you drive? I really dont see the point of opening up this application when the iphone already has google maps on it, which is pretty good in my book… i kind of get the consept of user made, but still, i cant type when im driving right? so whats the point if im driving for an hour for an accident that might have happened 80 miles ago?
just wondering. thanks, but please, answer the points system for me, what do we gain from this?
@vanisht099 - a few things:
as a community-sourced app and service, the points allow a somewhat precise measurement of your contribution. Similar to how you cannot edit any article you’d like on wikipedia, without gaining ‘credit’ for some prior ground work.
From the points, we build both the ranks (the website will soon have ranks for specific actions - i.e. top contributors for map editing, driving, reporting etc.) and the stars system, which basically define your permissions. More stars give you more map editing permissions, as well as other aspects of usage.
There are similarities to Google Maps, those have been discussed on previous threads, but the differences are:
hope that helped…

Regarding the typing, note that there should be a passenger mode, I.e. if you are driving and you are the passenger, you can type in the text.
Is typing only disabled while driving for some functions? I think I tried to type a map problem and it did not prevent me while the vehicle was moving.
I have a 3G iphone with Waze 1.2 and I seem to only accrue points when the client is open and the screen is visible. As soon as I press the sleep/wake button in the upper right corner of the iphone the screen as usual goes black. It is at this point that i seem to stop accruing points (i.e. i only accrue points when the screen is visible).
This sucks because on 3G my iphone even with the brightness down drains battery rather quickly. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Apple doesn’t allow background processes, and I assume this means that the process might “half-quit” once you lock it–notice it does the “appear from nowhere” animation when you unlock. I’d recommend setting your auto-lock to one minute–Waze starts to fade out and disappear on me quite a lot, but it doesn’t fully lock; a tap of the screen brings it right back.
Of course, what I’d really recommend is a solid car charger ![]()
I’ve found, with my car setup*, my iPhone doesn’t really stay charged using waze with a car charger (belkin) while driving. When I get out of my car the battery display shows that I’m fully charged, yet a half hour later im about 75% charged… same usage without waze i’m around 95% charged.
*Kingston car mount on my side driver window (near the windshield) streaming wireless to my ad2p jabra receiver… and connected via a 3g network… lots of power in play.
I’ve noticed that too, to varying degrees. My setup is similar excepting that I have a Bluetooth connection to my car’s handsfree and all other audio going through a 3.5mm cable into an aux-in. It never really discharges noticeably for me, though. Maybe it’s the Bluetooth streaming throwing in that edge for you?
I’m sure the GPS, 3G, and two bluetooth connections is doing it for me… the car has a bluetooth handset built in but no audio streaming… but I’m still trying to munch points and hopefully make waze very useful in my area so I’m willing to sacrifice some juice. ![]()
