Are there any plans to implement a POI feature?
Yes, they are called Landmarks in Cartouche. You should be able to add one and then classify it e.g. Shopping Mall and name it as well.
they also announced that they will change how landmarks are entered on the near future… note that landmarks isnt visible on all clients yet as it seems…

How can I add a landscape? This is a Killer feature that will bring waze one step forward to become a GPS people will use as fist choice!
There are options to add Landmarks as Parks, lakes, rivers etc. if that’s what you are looking for. There’s a complete list of available landmarks here: http://world.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2717&hilit=landmarks&sid=70e47191cf52e1e35d8a4f67d37cd267#p19427 if you want to read through them ![]()
So far I really like Waze, ya can’t beat the price, and I love the idea of a community supported navigation software. However, what keeps me going back to my TomTom and Garmin GPS units is POI Management.
What this software really needs is the ability to maintain local POI files that can be searched and that will provide icons on on the maps.
Something like
Tyre http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/,
GSAK http://www.gsak.net/ ,
POIEdit http://www.poiedit.com/,
MyPOIManager http://www.mypoiworld.com/index.php?id=418.0.html?&L=1
could be used to manage them.
There are so many places out there where folks are sharing POI files like
http://www.poi-factory.com/
http://garmin.gps-data-team.com/
http://poifriend.com/
http://www.POInUSA.com
We just need a way to easily use them with Waze so we can have our own sets of custom POI’s. Simple CSV files would be great but something that used a sqlite database would be cool too.
I discovered that I can manually edit the history file and add Favorites there but that is nothing like the ability to have custom POI files, with multiple categories, that can easily be searched and browsed, and will display icons on the map.
To my mind POI integration/management is the single feature that Waze is missing for me.

Off to work any second but have time to make a short reply…
I agree with you uisge that icons would be lovely, like the kind that shows where the speedcams are hiding or any other alert that we may enter… but… they are in there… in the client!
Since a while back landmarks are visible in the client, as shapes on the map and their name on them, you can also search for them using the “new adress” search function. And if you want some PoI’s only for yourself, use the favorites function, that’s what I do anyway ![]()
well well, time to put on waze and head to work!
I know this is an old post, but I wanted to see if there were any updates on Waze supporting local POI data? I love the app and use it for commuting, but usually have to quit using it at that point and plug in my Garmin. I work for a company that has assets all over the area that I visit often to inspect and they are way too many to load manually. I would like Waze to be able to locally load POI’s in the form of CSV files or other type. Any info on this???

The information in this post is 4 years old at this point and is very much outdated. Waze is currently working on a revamp of the landmark system (see https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=83400 for some info).
