I have a UR in the Vancouver city area which may be a result of a city smudge. I rarely turn on the city layer, but the UR is saying that an area of Vancouver is showing on the map as Richmond. On the city layer, both Vancouver and Richmond are shown as the same colour. I’ve checked streets in the immediate are of the UR, but they are all shown as Vancouver as the city name.
You will need to show this clearly in a much lower zoom level where this occurs.
The overlap in the experimental layer isn’t indicating an issue, as it may just draw the polygon automatically and based on the location of the further outer location it might be showing as an overlap in the map layer.
You can do the reporting yourself using the form at the bottom of this page - https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Smudged_city.
Make sure to follow the instructions in the page to try indicate the issue yourself before submitting any smudge city.
So I found a segment in Vancouver that was set as Richmond. I changed that one and the Vancouver one in Richmond that you pointed out. I’ve also asked for some unlocks to clean up city limit interfaces on some highways and ramps. I’ve also completed the form providing the general area of the issue where the UR is. The incorrect segment was nearby, down by the river, but Hwy 99 is also set incorrectly. I’ve included that in the unlock requests.
I had done a lot of work on the city boundaries a couple of years ago. I’m suspecting that some of that work has been messed up, but there’s also some side points to bring up.
First, the drawn city boundaries are VERY rough polygons. Meaning, in the case of the GVRD, you’ll never have good boundaries, as they follow geographical points, rather than arbitrary lines.
Think of it this way – the GVRD municipality lines often resemble a jigsaw puzzle – everything interlocks, but there might be an “outie” piece that sticks out, and the other piece has an “innie” for the outie to lock into. In this case, the outie part will show as being a part of both pieces.
Back to an actual possible smudged city… In driving today I noticed that NB on Hwy 99 into Richmond, there is an area which showed as Richmond, BC and surrounding areas as Richmond. I can’t find where the BC may be coming from and Color Highlights shows city and not state/province. What is the easiest/quickest way to find where the problem may be, or if there is actually a problem? I think its somewhere in this area.
