Pronunciation fields for roads and exits

I have encountered several instances lately where the Waze App mispronounces road names when giving turn or exit prompts. Since correct (i.e. locally-accepted) pronunciation is often non-obvious (or even counterintuitive), I think it would be useful for WME to support pronunciation tags for road names. The pronunciation tag could either be a separate road segment field, e.g.:

or a non-displayed meta tag in the Road name itself, e.g.:

Ideally, the pronunciation markup should use a simple markup language that can be typed with a standard keyboard, like this one.

If the pronunciation field is present, TTS should use it; otherwise, TTS should default to parsing the road name as it does now.

TTS pronunciation issues can be dealt with by the person(s) in your community who coordinate with staff for fixing mispronunciations.

I’ve informed someone from the US community that can help.

While I understand this is suggestion for a WME feature, and I do not want to detract from that. I think such a feature could be a great enhancement to WME in conjunction with the TTS audio test tool we now have.

However if there specific examples in the USA which urgently need correction please post them to the forum using the format as explained on the wiki page.

Is there a way for me to check the TTS of a segment above my lock level (the name edit button is hidden)? I have a couple of segments I think I remember having issues with in the App, but I’d like to confirm before I submit a support request. The segments are too far away for me to go recheck in the App.

You can rename a small unimportant segment somewhere with the exact name you want to test, save, and then test the sound. Make sure to change the name back when you are done, before it gets published in a tile build.
