Punt Road / Johnston St - P Turns effective today

Hi Wazers,
Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts were on the new P Turns for Hoddle St and Johnston St and how Waze might accommodate this change considering its a U Turn followed by a Left Turn? From what i can gather it seems like the Waze algorithm would prioritise the road before it to enable a right turn and zig zag the user down back streets rather than route a U Turn and then a Left Turn.

We made the American Wiki as an upcoming implementation of Continuous Flow intersection

I would start be reading how they handle these intersections and see if their advice matches our needs.
It might or it might not, but its a starting point.

Suspect it will need a few Senior Wazers to collaborate / implement on this one. Hoddle St is a level 5 editor requirement. Shame there isn’t a test environment to try out routing options before implementation on our busiest road in Melbourne. I’ll try and dig up some reference location links from other countries based on the examples in that link but they’re not easy to locate.

Hey Tin are you on Discord?

Join me in the Waze Global Discord Server, #Australia channel.

I have posted into the #General channel about this intersection.

Page 6 of your brochure shows the location of the U-Turns for Hoodle St and Johnston St.

The Southern one has already been implemented.

This sounds very similar to an MUTI (Median U-Turn Intersection). There is more information on the Michigan, USA Wiki page. I’m sure some editors that are more familiar with it could answer questions also.

It is a chat environment that persists (i find I lose stuff when refreshing WME) more than the Chat provided in WME.
There is a global environment of experts. Not a replacement for Forum but a starting point for pre forum chat. Or for quick responses when others are online.

I just joined to check it out. You mention LakeyBoy has started implementing? Which parts exactly?

Further to what Geoff was saying:

  • It’s a dynamic and interactive platform for discussion - from brief requests to long and complex conversation discussions about all matters
  • You get instant interaction
  • People are much more accessible
  • It makes sounds when someone talks to you
  • I feel like I’m working as a group/team on problems instead of alone with odd posting on a forum here and there.
As for why discuss P-turns on discord, because there are many people in other countries that already have experience with these intersections who wouldn’t otherwise contribute to our country or this state’s forums. It’s a live and inclusive discussion.

It is however, certainly no replacement for forums I agree, and all decisions should be made openly and transparently on the forums - but Discord is just another method to converse.

From what I can see:

The U-Turn on the South side of the intersection has been added. With overrides on the instructions for 1 x U-Turn and not 2 x Right Turn

On the North side of the intersection the U-Turn is performed on an existing Truro St cross over section
Old turn restriction still there but not active anymore
This section might be upgraded from Street to Major Highway but that is a decision for someone else.

At the main intersection itself
The Right Turns from Hoodle St are already disabled.
The Right Turns from Johnston St have been Restricted (prohibited) Mon to Fri 7am to 9am and Mon to Fri 4pm to 6:30pm

I don’t understand the function of the node still in the middle of the intersection?
It might not be needed anymore.

There is a UR with trace on Johnston St Monday evening (i am only assuming to do with P-Turn - more information is required from the reporter first)

I just saw this thread. I have removed the extra node on Johnston St and removed the old restriction at Truro St. I’ve also made the medians Major Highways. Not sure what that UR driver was doing. They u-turned on Hoddle St twice instead of a simple left turn!

Thanks for the update Lakeyboy.
