Question about reporting red light cameras

Hey guys,
There is an intersection near my house where there is a red light camera at each corner. I noticed on more than 1 occasion that I would report all 4 of these cameras at that particular intersection, and either the next day or 2 days later, the cameras that I reported are no longer on the map! I would report the cameras again and they would disappear again. This went on for a little while until I got frustrated. Does anyone have an idea why that would happen?

Post a permalink to this intersection. If you haven’t confirmed the cameras in the editor, it’s likely that someone is going through and deleting them.

Hi jasonh300,
What is a “permalink” and how do I post that?

Are you sure they are actually red light cameras? I only ask because many many people mistake the traffic monitors mounted on traffic lights as red-light cameras. If you are sure they are red-light cameras, you need to mark them, then go into the editor and make sure they are set correctly. This serves to confirm them so they will go active. Cameras require a two step placement process. first step is placement via the device, second is confirmation via the WME.

Daknife, I think you are correct that a lot of folks are not sure what a RLC looks like. I have seen quite a few markers here in the DFW area for RLCs and there isn’t one there.

TsidkenuRohi, I am not saying you are wrong, just that I see quite a few incorrectly marked corners. I have also not seen many intersections where they have RLCs for all four directions. But I have not been using Waze a long time so I just may not have noticed the cameras from all directions. I have heard that some states require photos of the front and back of the car before they can issue a ticket so they may have cameras on all four corners depending on where you are located.

Maybe we need to create a Wiki page kind of like this post over at EscortRadarForum.com. http://escortradarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3042. It has photos of Red Light Cameras and the Traffic cameras so they are easier to identify. I could stop and get a few photos for the page since we would not want to use their photos.

I could not agree more. There are traffic monitors on almost every controlled intersection on my daily commute, and “helpful” Wazers keep on marking them as red light cameras. This behavior is not a surprise, since Waze rewards them with points. What’s annoying is the near-constant stream of alerts, with no way of turning them off. This little issue is about to make me stop using Waze, even after all these years.

If we can’t educate the editors and drivers, can we at least get the option to turn off alerts about red light cameras?

I wish Waze would allow us to link the RLCs to the road, like everything else in the editor. It would make it easier to make sure the camera is connected to the proper intersection.

Or make RLC/SC not something that can be initially added by the client. It should be in the ur menu. It should be something in the editor to add from the start. I just now removed 100 cameras in a 1000 foot zoom level without having to pan. It looked like someone was driving down the road and just repeatedly clicked to get the points.

See the same thing. What if they only get points for approved ones, but still give me the points of cleaning up the mess.

What if it was moved off the main report screen and moved under the Map Update button, because, frankly isn’t that what it really is, an update to the map & not a traditional (Police, Accident Hazard) report?

+1 Me likey this idea.

+2 at the very least.

This was posted in facebook!

Or you could look at this Wiki page (work in progress)

Are we not supposed to mark the average speed cameras? They are still speed cameras and you will still get you screwed if you do 50mph+ past them.

Average speed cameras are a whole different ballgame. Marking those as regular cams does not necessarily help.
