If one follows the road signs from I-96 E to M-5 N, they lead to I-275 in the opposite direction, unless the driver is already in the rightmost of multiple lanes. For some reason, they put the exit sign right at the exit, which one sees while whizzing past in the wrong lane.
Is there a way to change the Waze directions so that it says “Right Lane Only, Exit To: M-5 N” ? And it needs to say that before the first fork, not waiting for the second.
You drive around without Waze telling you any directions? I do the same thing, but anyone who’s using Waze to actually navigate somewhere will get a warning one mile out that says “exit right, yadda yadda yadda.”
I have done some testing with this area with livemap and client siming, and it gives command to keep right. I guess I am not sure what more you are expecting. Yes there are multiple lanes, we don’t have lane guidance capabilities, but we can do our best to get pathfinder segments to work. So far it looks like it is setup pretty well, so I guess without a screenshot or some more information, a bit lost. Can you provide any more details or something I might be missing?
I guess what I’m saying is that lane guidance is needed. I think it would make sense to extend the M-5 ramp all the way back to the first fork, but we don’t normally do that.
In the absence of that, there is not enough information on screen before the first fork to hit that second ramp.
I guess even then, that would still not give enough information, it would actually give less. Because if it was extended to the first exit off, you would still only get the one prompt to stay right not two. In the situation it is setup as now, it gives the two prompts. The way you seem to describe it, it would only give one prompt off the main freeway. This is with active navigation route right? I guess if you had a picture even if you had used a screenshot of the area, with some MS Paint overlay might be easier to present a picture if able.
I guess I am still at a loss of what exactly more you’d like. I see your point that if you’re going through there, there might not be ample time of alerts. Maybe the first segment could have more descriptive about Exit right for 164? is that maybe more feasible?
I think for a matter of trying to prevent overcomplicating this, there isn’t much that can be done to really provide very minute, specific details for navigation that isn’t provided from the audio and visual clues. If muted, it is defeating the one of the primary functions and purposes of Waze as a handsfree navigation tool. On top of that, most drivers use autozoom, and that feature zooms in on the upcoming turn when approaching it. So there are two things that would give some clue to be in the right lane(s). Vehicles have brakes and signals for a reason, lack of knowledge of the area can’t all be pinned on a navigation device that does provide the correct turn by turn navigation. I am sure that even someone unfamiliar with the area would be attentive to their next turn(s).
Simulating this again with my device, there is about over a .4 mile before the Exit 164, which Waze states that on the nav bar as I sim this, using the Exit to get to 12 Mile Rd right up M-5. When I pass that, it takes another 3 miles to the next exit to loop back onto freeway and so forth. There might not be enough road signs before the exit, but Waze is giving ample time of warning it looks like. The only thing I can think of at this second is maybe bringing the exit to I-96 a bit further west, extending that entry point a bit, hopefully unnoticeable by the client? That way you might get 1/2 a mile instead before 164 on the nav bar, but I mean then we are talking feet and meters difference. The more we add to the first prompt, the harder it will be to get all of the instructions said with TTS that it might just cut off the end anyways. And then sometimes too the screen might cut off the text portion too. It is a tender balance at the moment for sure.
I don’t think it’s a problem. There are only two lanes on the continuation of 96 in the first place until the M-5 exit lane starts. The first segment of 96 after the split is nearly half a mile long, which is plenty of space to change over one lane. As soon as you take the split you’ll get the next instruction to exit left at M-5 on the screen, regardless of whether you’re listening to Waze or just looking at it.
BTW, the 96 stub segment of the split should not have "to " at the beginning. You’re already on 96. If anything, put the "to " before “I-275”, but that’d just make it take longer to say.
