Do red light cameras really deserve all the attention they get? I can’t imagine ever thinking, “Oh, shoot. I was planning to run that one.” It’s not like they’re coming after me, “Watch out! There’s a red light camera loose!”

I don’t see any harm in them, as long as we could actually get a dedicated object we can turn off. That and people use them correctly.
IE: Don’t put a speed cam in for one of those “your speed is” signs. No enforcement, no cam 
in my area the rlc’s are trigger happy and the police love to sit at a desk and write those tickets for poorly designed intersections… (God forbid they actually go out and catch real criminals with burglaries and assaults on the rise… oh yeah and drug use)… its not about running it… its about was it red for .02 seconds while you were in the intersection…
if you were going 45mph you might not have time to slow down on a quick yellow… I like the reminder so I can make sure I slow down enough so that stopping is not an issue… these things are fundraisers
In a town like Fort Worth TX it’s frightening that we’d warn folks. I’m thinking, “Do you normally run red lights? Do you need to be warned NOT to run this one??”. But it’s still a nice feature I suppose. I never get to report any because other wazers get to them first. 
We’re spoiled here, nearly every RLC installation has been paired with crosswalk countdown timers. The majority of trigger events I’ve seen are people running the end of a protected left or performing a S.light T.ap O.n P.edal on a right-on-red. Now given that, they will nail you for letter of the law infractions such as coming to a stop beyond the stop line because it creates a hazard for pedestrians.

One thing about rlcs I hate… someone not paying attention that is likely going to go through a yellow light realizes there’s a rlc and then slams on the brakes.

Definitely is a benefit in our area. They’ve found they can make a lot of money by also ticketing drivers who stop too close to crosswalk. It’s become an enormous revenue generator.
Is there a way to flag a red light camera that isn’t one, or isn’t there anymore? There’s one marked near me, but I cannot find it at all.
Red light camera’s need to be added in the application and then confirmed in the Waze Map Editor. Then they will show up in the application after the next map update.
You need to go into the map editor at that location and remove it. You could also enter a general map error and enter text details that the red light camera isn’t there any longer. (Without the text, there is no way for an editor to know what you were reporting.)
It is also possible that the camera has already been removed from the Map Editor and just has not been removed on the map in the client application yet. The map updates are currently taking 3-5 weeks from the editor to the application.
I have several cameras in my town that are marked incorrectly. There is a bunch of fakes mounted, a bunch of working and a bunch of nonfunctional red light cams. There is also no way to edit cameras in the map editor other than speed or deletion of cameras.
Any chance to fix it other than deleting a speed cam, actually driving there and report a red light cam?
I figured the report from the mobile app to be used mainly for mobile speed traps…
Currently camera type can’t be changed in WME. Also, camera’s can’t be added from WME - only from the application.
Process:
- Wazer adds a camera in the application (the appropriate type would be a bonus!)
- Wazer or another editor confirms the camera in the editor and updates the appropriate speed on speed cams as well as makes any adjustments on the camera location and directionality.
- When the next map update processes, the cameras become visable in the Waze application and warn appropriately.
Definitely useful in areas where they are legal and used/abused. I do however wish we could apply to disable them over a large area (like a state) when they are not legal and thus not used. For example, in Utah, the legislature has put such strict rules on their usage that both Red light and speed cams are effectively illegal and are thus not used.(They are only legal in school zones and an officer must personally review and authorize each ticket at the time the picture is taken, no letting companies do it for the police.) But I’m constantly clearing off posted false cams. Sometimes it’s the “Your speed is” signs, other times I think people confuse the traffic detection devices mounted on nearly every stoplight for such cams.
Obviously I wouldn’t expect the Waze admin folks to know about this, but if AM’s from a state could request or notify them of such information would be nice. And of course we’d need to be able to turn them back on should our legislature change it’s mind (unlikely as the law has been in place untouched since it was put in place in the early 90’s).
Another option would be to make it easier to send a note each time I do delete a cam, because it’s often one of just a few users who are posting all the false camera reports.
A user near me has been reporting a red light camera at every set of traffic lights he’s gone through. One or two of them might be legit, so it takes me a while to verify each one and delete the ones that aren’t.

I agree with Timbones, I’ve turned off Red Light Camera from the map options but get a verbal alert for six cameras in a row. I don’t care about them, any way to turn off the alerts?
No. There is no way to turn of alerts for anything. We have requested more granular preferences for a future version.
Turning off warnings needs to be implemented into the software fast. If I had to listen to the same 12 red light camera warnings every day on my way to work or home, I’d stop using Waze immediately.
I had no problem with red light cameras until I found out that 90%-95% of tickets are for right turns on red. Have you ever slowly rolled past the crosswalk line so that you could see to the left before coming to a complete stop? Even if you still stop before turning, you rolled past the crosswalk so that’s a ticket. Luckily for me there’s no red light cameras in my state (MN) for now, so all red light cameras get deleted here. Yet oddly we still get reports of them.
