Removal of old and empty Update Requests

Hi all,

Today we started to run a scripts on the N.A server that removes old and empty Update Requests:

  1. Update request that was submitted without any text and it’s status was left as “open”, will be removed from the map after 3 months.

  2. Update request that was sent as “general error” and submitted without any text and it’s status was changed (i.e “field trip needed” or “missing data”) and was still left open, will be deleted 6 months after it was opened.

The script will keep running every time map tiles are generated , Update requests that meet these criteria will be removed.
So far 7.8% of all UR were removed.

The idea behind this process is to make the Area Managers task of closing UR easier - Uninformative and old UR will no longer be displayed, so AM could concentrate on newer and more informative ones.

The script will also run on the World server in a matter of days.

Thanks,

Ori

good news

Great, thank you!

Now if you can just get the IGN editors helping out with Update Requests, especially in areas where they are not being attended to on a regular basis, that would help.

Also, maybe modify the client code to not allow for submitting an Update Request without any comments?

While driving a freeway or in a dense city traffic (without stopping at lights), I’m often not able to type in anything.

If I could modify my own empty report later (instead of adding a comment to it, which possibly next to noone will read), then I’d have nothing against. But still I’d have to enter some arbitrary character…

In waze’s new plans your open Update Requests will have a dashboard meaning you can see them and update them at a later time!

That would be valuable. I suspect most of the average, non-editing Wazers are not loading up cartouche_old when they get to a computer to add notes to their update request later.

You bring up a good point that we still may not get any valuable info if Wazers just enter one character just to bypass the proposed ‘you must enter some details in order to submit a Map Error Report’.

And as I understand it visible in the app as well as on the dashboard!

That will be brilliant! I hope we can have an on-going conversation with users, with them merely using the app to do this.

Will the reporters (excl. world_**) get an email about it?

Good question. I also can’t decide whether the answer should be yes or no!

IMHO definitely should be “yes”. A report should not just vanish.

If it’s that old I’d imagine you’re past caring if you can even remember it. It should also be 1 email per user irrespective of the number of reports being closed!

And include a link to the forum

And an invite to come and edit

And an apology!

world_ and usa_ users are unregistered and started using Waze with no email address. How do you suppose that’s going to happen?

If it looks strange, or I used bad grammar or misspelled anything, it’s my phone’s fault.

Read again Alan! It was excluding those troublesome entities!

Forum hopping before coffee makes Alan an idiot. Perhaps my tapatalk sig line needs to be amended to blame my phone for this kind of moronicy (or moronism) as well.

I hope we will get the new UR mgmt tools soon!
For closing the old ones out, I think it would be great if PRIOR to automatic close, the user received a “razzle-dazzle” email indicating that there, perhaps, is not an active area manager here and would they like to be involved in the editing community? Links to wiki, forum, etc and so on

I’m mixed on this. I used to enter empty reports in areas I had edit rights to very often in the early days of waze in my area. A lot of them fell in the ‘I think there is an obvious error on the client here, look at it in the editor and see if it needs to be fixed.’ Then later I could go in and add a comment if I wasn’t going to fix it right away. I think it’s handy to submit those, at least for AMs, so I’m against a change that forces entry of a description. Have a way to pick a pre-defined description might be handy though. “I saw something crazy here. Try and confirm it in the editor.”

Excellent decision to delete old requests, albeit not a 100 percent solution. Is this in preparation for migration to Papyrus?
