Renault will launch next September its R-Link integrated system, which is based on Android. A 2G ( ) sim card will be provided with the system (a 3G key can be connected as well) so you can download apps on R-link store.
Renault has a partnership with Tomtom and Coyote. I guess these companies wouldn’t be happy to see Waze available on the system, but still, that’d be great if Waze could reach an agreement! Especially since R-Link will use a crowd-sourced parking spot app.
Check out the video (in French, sorry, but you get it just by looking at it). Note the zombie behind the guy being interviewed.
Didn’t understand a thing, but the demo was nice. Real-world performance may be different, of course. Parking space, gas prices, and other services are some things Waze could integrate. Once everything else is stable, of course.
There are a number of these in-car solutions beginning to arrive now. I pointed out an after-market one from Parrot a while back. Definitely something that the team should be aware of.
