Report words

First, I apologize if this question has been asked. What are the words to say while reporting a pothole?

I simply said, “Pothole”, and it was not understood. Also, a Pothole is not a noticeable issue until driven over, especially at night, by the time we report the Pothole, we have passed it.

Any suggestions? TYIA

Hello!

Voice reporting for potholes does work, but you should make sure the app is configured for it. Make sure Google Assistant is enabled for Waze in the Settings, then you should see the icon for the Google Assistant microphone on several screen in the app where it can accept voice input or commands.

When encountering a hazard or something else to report, trigger Google Assistant, several different methods depending on what hardware you have and what settings you have enabled. Tap the mic icon on Waze, or a dedicated button on your steering wheel or In-Car display, or say “OK Google.” Pause and listen for the chime prompt. Then speak your command, like “Report pothole.”

A detailed list of set up instructions and commands can be found here: Use Google Assistant with Waze - Waze Help

Do not worry about passing a hazard before sending a report. Safety is priority. The app places the report icon at the location where you first started the reporting process (tapped the report button, or triggered the voice assistant), not when you complete sending the report, and the warning to other drivers is given as much as 0.5 mile beforehand. So there is no pressure to mark a hazard exactly in the right spot. (In fact, it’s not a good idea to mark it too early because people may tap “Not There” not realizing the real danger is just ahead.)

If you’re still beta testing and asking about the new Conversational Reporting feature, there is a dedicated thread in Discuss about that. It still requires enabling the feature first before you can use it. Additional questions or bugs to report about that feature should be kept within the Beta Community channels for now.
