Reporting blocked

I have been trying to get to the bottom of my reporting being blocked without any success until Waze support contacted me today and referred me to forum. I am not sure what brought this about but I travel early mornings 5 days a week and drive round trip a minimum of 200 miles per day, I have usually always received numerous thank you’s and the occasional not there any longer. Please advise as to reinstatement.

It appears that you were blocked by an automated system. This may have happened because you were flagged by other users as providing false information, or you may have been blocked for over-reporting, which can be seen as spam. More below on that.

I’ll put in for your to be unblocked, which should take effect within 24 hours.

Here are some tips to avoid being blocked:
For “Vehicle stopped on side of road”, only report vehicles that are an immediate hazard to traffic. For instance, someone changing a tire on the side of the road, very close to the travel lanes, or a broken down car with people standing around it could pose a danger to traffic, or to the people who are stopped. This is a valid report. A car that is off the side of the road, beyond the shoulder, such as those who park in the grass and fish in the nearby bayous (as tends to happen in southern Louisiana) are not a hazard, and will likely get you flagged by other users. Also, since these are so prevalent, if you report every one of them, you may exceed the expected number of reports in a certain time period and get flagged automatically.

For gas prices, be sure that you report the correct prices and don’t guess at them. Reporting bad prices will get you flagged by other users.

For Speed Cameras and Red Light Cameras, don’t report them. Period. Every speed camera and red light camera in the state is already on the map. If you see what you think is one, and it’s not on the map, it probably isn’t a speed camera or red light camera. If it’s a mobile camera that can be moved around, those are not reported or marked on the Waze map because when they get moved, it becomes an inaccurate report. You can report those as Police (Visible) if you want.

If you tend to make other types of reports, post here what they are and I can give you some tips on those.

Any questions or comments, just reply here, or feel free to send me a PM.

The rideshare folks are asking me: Will someone be adding all the new Red Light and Speed Camera locations being deployed this month in Orleans Parish?

Yes, I am working on it, though I will have to personally verify the location of each one because the published list is not clear enough. Of note, I visited three of the ~30 new locations (2 on S Carrollton and one on Fontainebleau), and not one of them had a speed camera—as in, there was no camera physically present there.

Please feel free to post in this thread if you actually find any of the new cameras.
