Require all users to have verified emails (app/wme)

require all users to have verified emails. as currently, half of the user requests I pick up, I don’t receive a response back from them, with most of these users not having a (verified email tag/label shown in the user preferences). potentially, forcing all users to have verified emails, it may increase the response rate/communication between editor-user.

Your idea is valid and thoughtful, as improving communication and response rates between users and editors is indeed crucial. However, in today’s globally shifting user mindset, privacy concerns remain at the forefront. Forcing users to verify their email information could likely alienate certain users, and Waze could risk losing valuable contributors—especially those who are privacy-conscious.

Waze, as a community-driven platform, thrives on the balance between user freedom and reliability. While it’s essential to streamline communication, any measure that may feel intrusive could harm user engagement. Instead, exploring alternative solutions like incentivizing email verification or improving in-app communication tools could strike a better balance. This way, user trust and collaboration can be maintained without imposing restrictive measures.

A possible solution is allowing anonymous or unverified users to use the app, but not submit map issues or other map updates.

That’s an interesting suggestion, and I share the same perspective as you and others. The issue of unverified users and communication gaps is indeed a general challenge across all editor communities. We may come up with many good ideas like this, but it’s worth noting that Waze staff doesn’t always adopt them. Ultimately, all we can do is use the suggestion box provided by Waze. If a large number of people vote for the idea, it might catch their attention, and we can see what Waze decides.

I do not believe the response rate is an important factor. Reducing the amount of user requests would be counter productive.
A good user request does not even require an additional communication between editor and user.

Very true!

The problem with that is that the in app reporting tool doesn’t allow for a “good user request”. When I have incorrect speed limits shown, the ONLY option I have is “general map issue.” This always requires a followup to explain the situation.

Report categories are imho quite a mess, currently there’s 12, I think those could easily be reduced to about 7 since some are basically obsolete so those should instead be reported as General error and few others could also be combined. I’ve gathered stats of solved reports in Finland from 12/23 and based on those results 7 categories would be enough since 5 least used current categories combined are only about 2% of all reports. It would help users a lot since much easier to select right category from fewer ones. Categories I think would be enough and a pic of what current/desired reports per category would mean:

Speed limits
Wrong driving instructions
General map error
Road closure
Missing road
Incorrect route
Incorrect address

Guys no need to make any suggestion : if Waze want they can easily allow any user to make report .but with a simple flag Waze could avoid that unregistered users reports will appear in WME !!

Remember they already did in the past for speed limits reports ….so….

In that way all “legal issues “ would be overtaken
