[Resolved] Unlock Total PFS on A1 at Wyboston

The Total filling station on the Black Cat Roundabout (jct of A1 and A421) is currently closed and, in common with most Total stations, is being rebranded. When it reopens (it’s a hole in the ground at the moment) it will become Shell according to signage around the site.

I don’t know if it’s best to remove it for the moment as it’s obviously a long term project (the DfT signs say “closed until further notice”), or just change the brand.

I had a Shell station close for rebuilding for about 3 months. I copied all the details into the Description field, changed the landmark to type “Other”, changed the name to “Closed for Refurbishment” and locked it. (Actually, there was a user who kept reporting the prices after it had closed, so it spent a few weeks named “No points for userxxx” )

When it re-opened, I was able to change the type back and recover all the saved details. In the meantime, anyone who wanted to add it from Streetview or aerial pics would have seen immediately why it was missing in the editor.

Another advantage of doing this is that if you delete and then later recreate it, you have to wait for map updates to affect the client (yes, I know they’re daily at the moment, but who knows how long that will last?). If the landmark already exists, the fuel station details are checked directly from the database. When my Shell re-opened, I changed the landmark back overnight. The next day I could report prices - although I had to wait a week or so for the next map update to change the name of it in the client.

Also, looking at your one, those ramps sections are not needed. Ramps are only for connecting different levels (grade-separated connectors as our US brethren call them). That can all be PLR.

Some good points there… Thank you.

I’ve just been back to change the ‘ramps’, but they’re also locked.

So, I changed the ramps to PLR. I thought it probably wasn’t a good idea to leave the station unlocked, in case someone well-meaning comes along and put’s it back again, so I made the changes and left it locked.

If you keep an eye on it and let us know when it’s open again (you can send me a PM or post another unlock request), we can change it back to a “real” one.

BTW, when it does re-open, try to check the phone number. Many of the national chains have their own block of numbers - so the old number may belong to Total, or it may get a new one belonging to Shell.

The filling station has now re-opened as a Shell. It’s so new, it’s not on Shell’s web site yet so I can’t give you a new number or confirm its name. I’ll try and update it when I’ve filled up there.

Thank you for your help with this one.

Hmmmm. I went to unlock it and change it back - and it’s been unlocked, changed back to a gas station and had all the details deleted from the description. :x Either that or the old landmark has been deleted and a new one put in it’s place.

It has a level one editor’s name on it as the last editor. I might just PM the editor in question to find out how this happened.

So, it’s currently a Shell station with no other details filled in. You can fill in the details next time you fill up there.

[EDIT]
No need for a PM.
It seems that someone else spotted that it had re-opened. They posted another unlock request here and had it legitimately unlocked. It’s a shame they didn’t copy the address back from the Description tab, but no underhand work here.
