River Rd NW / Fessenden St NW

I have another question similar to my previous one about Reno Rd NW.

In this case, I was travelling westbound on Fessenden St NW which eventually leads to northbound River Rd NW. My UR is still there to show my route. However, once I’ve turned onto Fessenden, the next instruction is to make the right turn onto I-495. Granted because of the odd construction of this intersection, there are only two choices once entering from the east, namely a right turn onto 45th St NW or a slight right onto River. I know what to do but a newcomer may not. Is there a way to force the slight right onto River to be announced?

Many thanks to all of you for your help.

No there is not an easy way to force an instruction to keep right onto River. You would need to resort to rather complicated hacks like adding short segments that go nowhere to the intersection.

The solution that I can see is to tweak Fessenden St (probably on both sides of the intersection) so that the angle between it and Reno Rd is greater than 45 degrees. Wouldn’t this force a turn instruction, CBenson? If I’m right, note that It will be a “turn right” not a “keep right”. So you will be told to “turn right” regardless of whether you are going to Reno or to 45th.

Yes, I do think that would force a turn instruction. I guess I wasn’t sure that a turn right instruction when not turning onto 45th would be more clear than no instruction at all. Looking at street view, it does seem the street signs are decent, so having a “turn right at River Rd instruction” looks like it could be helpful.
