Rivonia / Woodmead Area

Hi All

I’ve recently asked to become area manager of Rivonia / Woodmead, it seems to cover a little more than that as well.

As my first task I updated the huge N1/M1/N3 intersection, can’t believe someone has not sorted it yet properly! It should now help many others with routing… If you have any problems of it not routing there please post an update request with the detail of what you think is wrong and I will look into it ASAP. That also applies for any errors in the general Woodmead / Rivonia area. I will be checking the Pending deletions and Update requests as often as I log on.

Otherwise happy wazing! I know I am starting to enjoy it. So cool to see another wazer drive so close!

Cheers All
Genosha

PS. Also please feel free to indicate any issues in my area by replying to this forum!

Hehe, feel like I’m talking to myself.

Well, guess it’s good to continue the reports… Rivonia N1 Junction tidied up…

You’re not talking to yourself. Admiring your work from afar. Hope to take advantage of it someday. Want to host the Commonwealth Games?

Thanks Wayne!

Please feel free to come visit me when you do! I’ll be happy to show you a few excellent tourist attractions up here when you come!

Nice work  I’d been planning to get to that intersection sooner or later, but I’d been working on other things; I’ve also been on somewhat of a “hiatus” as far as Wazing goes, but I’m back now. It’s definitely great to see other people working on things, though; keep up the good work!

For Buccleuch: The Intersection POI might make sense to use, rater than the City field?

(If you have, time, cleaning up the N1 between Buccleuch and where I stopped (a short distance from where I could no longer delete roads - somewhere in Midrand) would also be nice)

(My N1 edits might need the adding of direction (N/S) and possibly the long and blocking my view of map names to the Alt name field (Dawie Joubert and Ben Schoeman in my area) ) Getting the naming simple helps for getting rid of the unnecessary intersections that was present which makes editing hard (Intersections should only exist at on and off-ramps unless there is a good reason (Change of city far from intersection / dual carriageway merging))

Excellent! Thanks for the tips.
I will get to it this weekend. I do try and remove junctions where I can, but I’ve been focusing on getting the connectivity working as I would love it if Waze actually gave me an alternative route due to traffic conditions!
Of course, given the current low numbers of Waze users in SA it might lead me straight into worse traffic  but it is growing! Always great when I go past another waze user :sunglasses:

Getting rid of junctions makes most editing, including connectivity easier… (“Enable all turns” work 90% of the time…)

The restricted turns layer also helps for that.

Waze can actually get me to work currently (Form Lyttleton Manor > Highveld in Centurion), but we’ll need more users for it to actually do a good job at avoiding traffic.

(I see you don’t have permissions far enough to help fix the N1 from where my area ends…)

Enable all turns works 100% of the time for me! Don’t judge this with the Restricted Turns layer which is known to be broken! Make sure to use the Highlight Connectivity option instead though note that occasionally this requires a quick zoom in and out by one level to refresh the highlights!

Sounds like you’re going for it though! Good stuff!

The Restricted turns layer helps to find the problematic areas in many cases…

There are some valid turn restrictions though… (such as U-turns where dual-carriageways merge and turns where slipways are present)

It’s known to have issues though, showing restrictions where there are none and missing some that should be there. I don’t go near it!

Someone has done some great work on the N1 N/S from rivonia to Beyers Naude! I need to refresh also maps on my cell.
Congrats and great stuff!

My apologies about the unrelated topic, but I think some of you may have permissions over this area. I didn’t want to create a new topic, and no-one is responding to my update request.:
Jan Smuts & William Nicol Intersection is screwed. Can someone with permissions please fix it. I used the routing for the first time this morning and it want to take me on a rather strange route. The intersection needs to be created, and all the minor tracks removed.

Kthnxbye

It looks like it has been completed now. Area managed often don’t use update requests to check for problems as we are all just trying to get the basic functioning of our areas going.
Hope you find the new junction useful!
PS. To find out who the area manager is just click the “Area Managers” button in the “Layers Panel” while editing maps…

Hi
I cleaned up Jan smuts and wm nicol as per your request a while ago  hope it is routing properly now

I am AM for most of the joburg area inside the freeway circle and a bit outside as well. I’m concentrating on user reports and map problems when I have time, and also tidying up connectivity. Please feel free to use the update request in your client and give as much info as possible. Also feel free to pm me here…

There is still a slight problem at the Rivonia on Ramp, it would be nice if someone with permissions can fix it.
Basically the problem is the following:

If you travel east on Witkopen, and then turn left at the new Rivonia on ramp to get onto the N1 North, Navigation tells you to turn right and then left instead of just left, looking at Cartouche, the intersection there is a kink in Witkopen resulting in a right turn then left. I would fix it myself, but do not have sufficient permissions in that area.

On it…

On Friday on my way home I took the Rivonia off-ramp again for the first time in a couple of weeks and navigation here no longer seem to be working. For a while after Steven’s last update, it was perfect, but it looks like someone have done some very bad things to Witkopen road and have broken the Interchange.

Maybe one of the Area Managers for this area can take a look, if not I will try to fix it later this week.

I have repaired the Rivonia Offramp again (the bits that actually go to Witkopen Road) Still not sure what went wrong for it to become so messed up. I locked all the one-way roads in the area, because I think the auto map updates might have had something to do with the problems at the interchange.

Rivonia Road itself and its immediate area still seems to require a lot of work, but I will leave that to someone that actually knows that area.
