Rnk 5: Indiana, PA - SR-286 - update names in interchg

It would be nice to use consistently either “State Rte 286” or “SR-286” or whatever is the preferred Waze nomenclature.

This segment is type ramp and should be name “to State Rte 286” with an immaterial alternate name of “Truck SR-286” (signs do not indicate that this is a truck route and any truck on this segment is about to enter the actual SR-286). I do not see how the truck route is helpful to Waze.

This segment should be named “to State Rte 286 W” with an alternate name of “Truck SR-286”. No sign mentions trucks here because it is immaterial.

These segments technically are minor highway, not a ramps. 100% of traffic following regular SR-286 (W or E, respectively) must follow these segments. They look like ramps only because of the interchange with US-119. The eastbound segment should be labeled “Exit to: State Rte 286 E / Clymer” to agree with the posted highway sign and user experience.

This segment should be labeled “to US-119 S / Blairsville” to match the exit sign.

This segment should be labeled “to US-119 N / Punxsutawney” to match the exit sign.

I’m rank 3. I drive these roads often and will get answers to any questions about signs or markings.

Many states have adopted the SR- naming.

I have set all the segments linked to Rank 3 so you can update them. I noted that you could also change segments of the highway to the north if you are going with SR-##. Think PA is one of those states. Visit your state forum.

PA has been using “SR” naming for US routes too. To me the real issue is how text-to-speech processes it. There are some really dumb translations like “Penn” being pronounced “Pennsylvania”.

Please follow the Pennsylvania wiki for road naming. I know you are familiar with it, you’ve edited it.

If I’ve locked something at a 5 in the last year, there is probably a good reason for it. Please ask before you alter anything like that.

Some of the segments had Truck Route as their primary name which is what attracted my attention because they produced directions that were very confusing. (For example, the truck route for 286 westbound runs east (opposite direction) to US-119 S thence to US-422 W until it rejoins SR-286 S.)
I didn’t ask to unlock them, only that they be corrected.
The wiki is something that I’ve learned of only recently. I’ll check to see how the names conform and get back to you.

I’m sorry I didn’t get to finish this. I just put it in a state that would give the correct TTS. If you are right, that the minor highway should be thru, then we still need a short segment of ramp as a wayfinder segment at the beginning. I can edit it to show you what I mean, if you wish.

Yes, SR-286 is carried through the interchange. It sounds like you are saying that part of the highway needs to be of type ramp for technical reasons (they look like ramps). Sure, please fix the segment(s) and post the url. I’ll take a look.

In the Harrisburg region, state highways are named “State Rte XXX.” Which then, is the correct way to name these state highways?
From the PA Wiki:
The format State Rte 111 is currently the recommended format but PA-111 is also acceptable until Waze announces how shield generation for state roads will work. Do not alter route numbers if they are currently in one of the acceptable formats. State Hwy and variations should not be used unless it is on the road signs.

I know that the thread has a lot of context for the question about the naming convention; however, this is in the forum just for update requests. The discussion of the PA wiki properly should be a new thread on the Pennsylvania forum.
