Road Closure Request - Athgarvan Road, Newbridge

Hi,

There is currently a road closure on Athgarvan Road, Newbridge from entrance to Supervalu to Lidl entrance. This corresponds to Phases 1 & 2 of the notification on Irish Water website.

Road closures:

Phase 1: 10 February – 17 February; Entrance to Lidl carpark to Newbridge Retail Park. Access to carpark will be maintained throughout road closure.

Phase 2: 17 February – 25 February 2021; Newbridge Retail Park. Access to carpark will be maintained throughout road closure.

Phase 3: 26 February – 4 March 2021; Newbridge Retail Park to Dunnes Stores back exit. Access to this exit may be impacted over two nights.

Phase 4: 5 March – 8 March 2021; Dunnes Stores back exit to Cill Dara Business Park entrance. Access to Cill Dara Business Park will be maintained.

Phase 5: 9 March – 17 March 2021; Dunnes Stores back exit to Moorefield Park entrance. Access to Cill Dara Business Park will be maintained using other access road. Access to Moorefield Park estate will be maintained.

Phase 6: 18 March – 23 March 2021; Cill Dara Business Park to Newbridge Shopping Centre. Access to Moorefield Park and Newbridge Shopping Centre will be maintained

Stop/Go Shuttle System:

Phase 7: 24 March – 25 March 2021; Moorefield Park to Newbridge Shopping Centre entrance. Access to Moorefield Park and Newbridge Shopping Centre will be maintained.

Works will demobilize over the Easter period and the Athgarvan Road reopen between 27 March and 6 April. Works will resume on 6 April with stop/go shuttle system in place for the remaining phases.

Phase 7: 07 April – 09 April 2021; Moorefield Park to Newbridge Shopping Centre entrance. Access to Moorefield Park and Newbridge Shopping Centre will be maintained

The details of the remainder of the stop/go shuttle system are currently in draft and subject to further discussions and final agreement with the relevant roads authorities. We will endeavour to keep you updated as the project progresses

Hey Shane, thanks for the very comprehensive post and sorry for only getting back to you now.

I closed the segments you linked for Phase 1 but I’m not sure how to proceed about scheduling the following phases. The article says Ph 1-6 will be 24/7 so shall we expire Ph1 at 23:59 and start Ph2 at 00:00? What do you think?

Yes, I think it reads that Phase 1 should end on 17th at 23:59 and Phase 2 start on 17th at 00:00 as there will be overlap.

Realistically though, the dates are already looking indicative as they have closed off both Phase 1 and Phase 2 sections as of Thursday evening, 11th.

So for the time being I have Ph1 expiring on 17 Feb and Ph2 expiring on 25 Feb. I’ll hold off adding the subsequent closures in case the timeline becomes more fluid as they go. Keep us updated

The next phase (3) is active now. Phase 1 has reopened so there is access to Cill Dara Industrial Estate from both ends.

Thanks for the heads-up Shane. So now I’m leaving Ph2 until 25 Feb 23:59, and adding Ph3 from now until 4 Mar 23:59.

Would you mind running an eye over the screenshot below and check if I have the phases correctly marked? (4 and 5 are smaller sections but we will use one segment in the editor)

Phase 4, 5 & 6 are now active. Phase 1-3 have been reopened.

Works appear to be running ahead of the schedule provided originally.

Closures under the above phases 1-7 have been completed.

Thanks Shane. These drawings are pretty chaotic aren’t they…? Like a renaissance painting though, looking at it for a long time revealed the thin direction arrows in the most faint colours possible :mrgreen:

Could you please validate my interpretation (ignore the closures displayed in the screenshot)? Green arrows are the only allowed directions of travel at the junction of R445 Moorefield Rd and Athgarvan Rd. West entrance to the Industrial Estate is closed. And these are valid from now until 26 Mar and 7-12 Apr?

Yes that looks correct. They seem to have been running ahead of time up to now but I guess we can only work with the advertised dates.

Agree the drawings are difficult to read for the public. Guess somebody was lazy and just took the detailed site works drawings used for getting the road closures.

I was able to put these through except disabling the right turn from Athgarvan Rd to R445. This will have to wait until the next tile update which will hopefully be tomorrow. As soon as the new tiles go live, the turn will be restricted.

I’ve got a reminder to revisit and replace the disabled turn with a proper real-time closure.

Hi Shane, not sure if you submitted a new UR about these ongoing works, but I’m uncertain which Phase is closed at the moment. In any case, any local knowledge you can share?
