Can a map editor please update the map with this road closure.

Affected road: Rossack Drive, Waurn Ponds, Victoria
Affected lane: South bound (Meadowvale Drive to Pit Street.)
(Not sure when the roadworks will be completed.)

Hi @handbrakeoff, thanks for letting us know about the road closure on Rossack Dr, I’ve gone ahead and applied the closure to the map now.

Based on your report and link provided, it looks like they are currently working on stage 2. If this is part of your regular commute and you see they have progressed to the next stage, please let us know and we can update the closures. We’ll also keep an eye out for any other reports from Wazers in this area.

Hi @brandon28au , Rossack Dr is 2 separate lanes, a Southbound lane and a Northbound lane for it’s entire length, even from Node: ID: 110450151. (You’ll notice the section south of Pit St is shown as 2 lanes.)

I went past the road closure today and noticed Rossack Dr appears completely closed on the Waze map in that section.

Is it possible to update Rossack Dr on the map with 2 lanes.

The Southbound lane between Meadowvale Dr and Pit street is closed but the Northbound lane is still open to traffic.

Interestingly I did a test and Waze correctly routed me north along Rossack Dr even though it appears closed on the map.

Hi @handbrakeoff, thanks for the reply. Segments - which are what makes up a road in Waze - have the option of being two-way or one-way, closures can then also be applied to these segments in one or both directions.

While it can be a bit unclear in the app with undivided roads, especially when multiple segments are involved, the closure pin will only appear at the start of the closure/segment (based on direction of travel), or both ends if applied in both directions. As you mentioned, Waze is navigating correctly because the closure has been mapped correctly, though in the interest of providing as clear a picture as possible to Wazers, I have updated the closure description to mention it is a southbound closure, though they do need to click on the pin to see that.

As for dividing the road, I was the one who divided south of Pit St last night, it won’t be live in the app yet. While I do plan on dividing between Meadowvale Dr and Pit St, this cannot be done while there is an active closure on the segments. As for south of node 110450151, this has been mapped correctly as a single segment as there is no physical separation, you can read our mapping guidelines on dividing roads here.

I have a UR 23787384 response saying “Yes road is open”. I see we have several other recent URs on that road, although no responses from those yet. I’ll open the road in the assumption that Geelong have finished the roadworks early.

I’ve just come back from a couple of weeks away and discovered that sections of Rossack Drive southbound are still closed, with the Southbound lane now closed between Meadowvale Dr and Heyers Rd as per Stages 2 & 3 below.

  • Stage 2: Meadowvale Drive to Pit Street inc Roundabout (Southbound Side)
  • Stage 3: Pit Street to Heyers Road (Southbound Side)

Note: Rossack Drive Northbound lane is open.

Thanks. I’ve closed the southbound lanes again. Do we have any idea when they will be open again, and northbound will be closed for stages 4 & 5?

Update 17-Mar-2025:
Rossack Dr southbound between Meadowvale Dr and Pit St is now open, BUT, you can’t drive from Rossack Dr to Pit St, as that part of the roundabout is closed.

Rossack Dr southbound still closed between Heyers Rd and Pit St.
