Road incorrectly appearing as a dead end in the client?

Hi Guys,

I am Jason, a fairly new map editor based in Fife, Scotland.

I made some changes to some of the streets around my house, as there were some streets missing and some incorrect street names, etc.

As part of my changes, I recreated a one way street, as I was having trouble with 2 new roads that I had added off that street, which weren’t showing the allowed turns arrows as expected.
(NOTE: I have since realised that I need to add a new segment, delete it, and then draw my new road.)

I note that the above changes are now appearing in the client, however the one way street (Alma St) is appearing with a dotted display, which I understood meant a dead end. The street is question is not a dead end, and as far as I can see, is correctly joined to the others roads surrounding it, with all the correct allowed turns set.

I wonder if a more experienced editor could have a look and give some advice as to why this happening, and possibly point out something I have missed.

The permlink for the street is question is below:

https://world.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lon=-3.39262&lat=56.03205&layers=BFTFFTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTFT&segments=190525509,190525510

I have also attached a screenshot as to how this road looks in the client.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The dots do not indicate a dead end. They’re variously known as “pacman dots”, “cookies” or other names. They indicate that the segment is new and Waze “wants” someone to drive over them to provide GPS and speed data to help confirm them. Whilst “munching” the dots, your client icon changes to a little pacman icon as it gobbles up the dots.

This counts towards your “Waze cookie eater meters” on the scoreboard. There used to be a client setting to prefer routing over these segments, but that’s now disabled. You don’t find many of them in London nowadays, except for a few dead-ends  but I saw plenty in both Wales and Scotland. The difficulty is in explaining to the passengers why you keep turning off the main road and driving down single-track roads or into residential cul-de-sacs.

Ah-hah!! I stand corrected. I think I got that impression as I had mostly seen that UI on streets that did actually dead end.

Thanks for the clarification.
