There is a feature I would really like to see implemented and I know it will help Wazers alot.
I love Waze. It is so much better, friendlier, more social, etc. than any other GPS software around. I usually avoid traffic using it with no problems.
However yesterday Waze ran me into a 1 hour traffic jam. Now, Waze was correct in the fact that the suggested route was the fastest. However the highway it was suggesting I take was roadblocked and traffic detoured because of Road maintenance.
I ended up in a traffic jam like I hadnt seen for a long time (since Waze). I ended up taking a secondary road, and Waze recalculated its route to go back to the blocked highway. I just kept driving in what I thought was the best route, and Waze kept recalculating its route to go back to that specific block highway. Not much help there.
Now, this is something that you cant fix using the map editor, because the roadblock was only for a couple of hours.
What I think is that a “blocked” road or “road block” report should be implemented, that allow Wazers to report that a specific road is blocked. Yesterday I was able to see aprox 25 wazers all stuck in the same jam.
Now, I know that it has to be used carefully, because anyone could “report a nonexistant roadblock” and screw every one up. However maybe Waze can see that somebody reported a specific road as blocked, and “Warn” other wazers that a road is blocked, and suggest alternate routes BEFORE you get stuck in a traffic jam.
It should be automatic. When a Wazer deviates from the proposed route it can be assumed that is for a purpose - road blocked ahead. All the skipped segments can be given some temporary penalty and when a second or third Wazer skips these segments (or a subset of these segments) these temporary penalties accumulate until some level is reached where it can be safely assumed that part of the road is blocked. The next wazers can then be routed around it until some Wazer ignores the deviation and clears the road. Simple comme bonjour! But, yes, it can not be done by one Wazer alone.
I’d prefer a popup asking if the deviation is for a purpose. I know I often go off route to stop for food/fuel/facilities. I don’t set a route to that destination because I am driving along and just decide, hey, I’m hungry and pull over I see the sign for a place I’d like to go to so I don’t need directions and if I am driving along an Interstate, it isn’t like I can set a new destination without stopping anyway (for safety reasons).
