Hello

I am a departmental road manager and I would like to create a road closure for one week so that road users can follow a detour route. How can I do this and what profile should I have for this?

For this type of need, you should not “create a route” in Waze, but rather create a temporary road closure on the affected segments. This allows Waze to automatically avoid the closed road and offer an alternative route to drivers.

Two possibilities generally exist:

  1. Via the Waze editor community
    You can send us the necessary information here, and an authorized editor will be able to look at the request:
  • precise location of the closure;
  • start date and time;
  • end date and time;
  • direction affected, if the closure is not in both directions;
  • official order, detour map, or official document if available.The most practical way is also to share a WME permalink or, failing that, a precise map / plan.
  1. Via Waze for Cities, for local authorities and road managers
    For a departmental road manager, the most suitable framework is often the Waze for Cities program, which allows public partners to directly share planned closures, incidents, or major traffic events with Waze. Once access is validated, closures can be entered via the partner tools / WME, or transmitted via data feed as needed.
