Routing around closed or restricted routes

Hey, last few days July 18-20, 2023 the intersection of route 140 (Mechanic St) and 126 (S Main Street) in Bellingham MA has been shown at closed/restricted. Which is correct as a bunch of construction is going on here. My fault is that the road I live on, is connected to part of the closed section of Route 126, (S Main Street) and because there is no other outlet for my road, Waze has no option but to fail as it cannot find another route to solve for my trip. So basically I cannot use Waze until I get clear of the restriction zone, at which I am well on my way driving and dop not want to stop to input destinations. Due to the vehicle voice activation also fails, there is no working mic in the vehicle.

Being only a 0.00001% problem of the user base, just thought I would post this and maybe ask that if a route, encounters a restricted or closed road, within say the first 1000ft, maybe 1/8 of a mile, that an option pop up to “route anyway” as no GPS system could ever keep up with the way this construction project has been going. One lane this hour, only turn right this hour, only left the next hour, have to ask the cop to move the blockade so I can actually get home, while driving around workers and equipment.

Not sure how hard that would be to add to the logic, but then I could still use my home as the start point for my trips and not have to “trick the system” to thining I am starting from another location. Thanks.

Hi There! Thanks for the note.

Unfortunately this is a difficult situation, because of exactly what you describe. As map editors, we close the roads as accurately as we can according to any official announcements, but that does make it difficult for any local residents to be routed through the closures to their homes.

My best suggestion to figure out a location which is not on a closed segment, but is essentially where it makes the most sense for you to be navigated. For example if the closure is between #800 and #900 Main Street, and you need to get to #850, then you might try navigating to #798 or #902 (based on whichever makes the most sense for you) until the closures have ended.

There is suggestion area for comments like this - and the good news is that Waze staff (who has control over the functionality that you describe) does read them:
