Rural road types

Hello all.
Most rural roads near me are yellow on OS landranger 1:50,000. Middle-zoom on OS opendata website shows much fewer as yellow.
Any advice on what resource to use to classify primary streets?
Thanks.

I tend to use OS Opendata as a guide, but I think they are all just “guides” as such - I don’t think there is any “official” designation of primary street.

You said “near you” - in that case I would suggest using your own opinion and erring on the side of fewer rather than more primary streets.

I get the impression that it’s a more significant choice where there are a lot of roads around and a potentially large number of route choices. In those cases, “primary street” indicates the “normal” route through an area. I think Waze will prefer the primary street if there are no traffic problems and generally avoid routing you through all the back-streets.

Here in London, I’m surprised I have never seen cases where somebody has “promoted” their preferred route to primary street to nudge Waze into using it - or demoted a primary street because they don’t like traffic where they live. I have a primary street near me with vicious road humps on it! I’m often tempted to demote it, but then I’m sure Waze would just route along the side streets alongside it. And the road humps are there for a reason.

Thanks Iain, that’s what I’ll do then. My local knowledge is limited in radius, but I’ll lay out the skeleton routes and the local wazers can adapt them if needed.
