+1 and I would say minor highway. They are intended to connect regions with eachother, just like federal 4 digits roads do.
Yes, I think we can abbreviate Road as Rd. Should work with TTS fine and make the roads more readable (just like Hwy on the national roads).
I like Rural Road XXXX, mainly because it’s hard to determine the beginning and end of the cities etc to name them with area names.
I’m on the Rural Rd. XXXX voting list. As to primary street vs. mH, I’m somewhat torn on it. Part of me says to go by functional intent, which would be always mH. Part of me says it should be by the use supported by the quality of the road, and some of the rural roads in our region are PS at best based on the satellite. I can go either way on that part of things, but would say “never less than PS”.
1+
My votes:
Rural Rd - Type: it depends.
I have seen Rural roads that look like a mH and provide good connectivity to distant areas.
Also the opposite, Rural roads that are detoriated and only connect smaller areas.
And sometimes a parts of the road with 4 lanes, followed by a 2 lane dustroad.
So priority should go to the connectivity aspect. Zoom out and see how the area is connected. if this is the only road connecting xx villages and/or another mH , MH or FW - then mH hould be appropriate.
I’'m not sure if such instruction would work in a waze editing community however.
i’d go for Rural Road
with its corresponding number
I would go for “Rural Road xxxx” or “Rurual Rd xxxx” and for road type:
Primary Street - if the road is paved(without stripes) or not paved and connects villages
mH - if paved with stripes and connects villages
Seems we all lean towards Rural Rd xxxx (without a dot after Rd of course!!) ![]()
I also like RR xxxx but that might be less recognised by locals.
The road type should have 1 basic standard and based on above it looks like Minor is most appropriate.
There can always be exceptions to a rule for REAL bad conditions, seen from Streetview (I think it’s quite impossible in a lot of situations to judge this based on satellite). Such as bad pavement, dirt road like conditions where we can degrade to primary. But those should be very limited.
I would say Option 2 is best, too. Would there be any purpose to noting the district abbreviation in the alt field, for future reference?
As for the classification, I would vote for mH, at least on those that are the best/only connection between towns. For no other reason, there should be SOME lock on the thing, if they functionally connect towns. Want to help the routing server, here.
I have no problem with using alt names to name the roads per the signage “นบ.4022”. Just be sure to get it right.
นบ vs นน vs นม vs นย
EDIT:
List of province abbreviations. Drop the first 2 letters and the dots between to match government signage:
http://tambon.blogspot.com/2010/04/changwat-abbreviations.html
So “จว.น.ศ.” becomes “นศ.” for road naming.
Okay, I’ll put the most common suggestion on the wiki, which is:
Rural Rd xxxx
Minor Highway
This solves the most pressing issue. Feel free to continue discussing the alt names as suggested by HandOfMadness.
Hi, in Colombia I have found so much main streets in rural areas, those are important routes but still are made for 4X4 vehicles. I think there may be a way to make difference between “highways” for 4x4 vehicles and “minor roads” for 4x4 vehicles.
