Well, things are going great when it comes to new registered and active Wazers.
More and more people are using Waze on their daily commute, there is a major increase in the numbers of map editors that keep improving the maps for the benefit of all Wazers in South Africa.
So now is the time to go forward and work together - Creating a community of editors, local Champs, wiki experts and everybody who wishes to take part in helping fellow Wazers, create mapping guidelines and be the ones to lead.
Guys, we would love to hear from you - please share with me your suggestions, insights, ideas and anything that comes to your mind!
This made me chuckle… The forums are quite these days - maybe the petrol price or e-tolls have put a shock into the system.
I’m Kyle - one of the South African Country Managers. Feel free to drop me a PM here on the forums. I’ll generally get back to you within a day. I have to say I’m pleased to see a number of new editors around. As Ori said, don’t be shy. If you have any questions we are here to help regardless how small the issue may seem.
I’m Rod, also a Country Manager. I have been quiet for the last few weeks due to a very busy work period. (As a freelancer that’s not a complaint!) My life is returning to a more normal pace in a day or 2, so expect to see me more active and present again.
I’ll add that I live in Somerset West near Cape Town.
Nice to hear from you!
We know that the petrol prices are a big issue across the world.
Thanks to your awesome work on adding the SA petrol station we’ve reached the min. number of gas station required to set up the Gas station feature.
We have started working on the implementation of the feature in SA and it might take a few weeks.
We’ll keep you posted on our progress!
My name is Leigh, and I’m a 'Waze’aholic. I’ve been addicted for almost three years. I am another country manager for South Africa, based in Cape Town.
We definitely have a need for more editors, as we need more eyes on the ground. I’m still horrified to find major cities with unmapped roads. Yesterday I found the north western parts of Kimberley largely untouched, and Streetview is either unavailable or it’s very difficult to read street names.
I’m all for mentoring. For the new editors that disconnect as soon as I greet them in Chat, I promise I don’t bite. I’m just trying to guide you to not making the basic mistakes we see all over.
I maped like crazy for a year and took a break.
After driving from JHB to Knysna, and finding some long distance routing problems on N12, i couldn’t resist logging in again.
The news on the fuel stations and pricing on it’s way to SA is great news.
I am a complete noob/amateur wazer but love using the app and contributing to live updates and adjusting maps where I can. I live in Johannesburg but travel regularly on business and pleasure, using Waze wherever I go. Looking forward to contributing more and more.
Andre here. I am addicted to editing and not ashamed to say it. To top that, I am a 4x4 fanatic as well.
I live in, and mostly move around in the Joburg’ area (but travel all round the old PWV area). I do quite a bit of travelling into Lesotho assisting the TUC Lesotho Mission as well.
Sven here. Wazer for 4 years and part-time editor for the last year.
Live north of the northern suburbs of Joburg, and south of the Pretoria south. Just in the sweet spot
Travel quite a bit for work, and have Waze as the constant companion.
Biggest Desire: To get a non-working robot, erm, traffic light alert for the app!
Eben here and another Wazeaholic I must confess Been an active editor for the past 7 months and thoroughly enjoying myself while making navigating easier for all wazers.
Staying in Pretoria, but regularly travelling to Botswana, Kenya and soon to Namibia and Nigeria on business…and helping out there as well with their maps.
I have been put on the right path editing by quite a few of the folk who already introduced themselves and keep learning from them every day, so I agree with Leigh…don’t be shy to say hello, don’t be scared to ask a question or for guidance.
My name is Kevin I run a electronics/ it company in Richards Bay, live in Empangeni. I got into Waze just over 3 years ago and became totally addicted. I like adding elements that give wazers queues while navigating such as rivers, parks and lakes etc.
Hi Wazers
I am a complete noob wazer but love using the app and contributing to live updates and adjusting maps where I can. I live in Pretoria - North. I using Waze wherever I go. Looking forward to contributing more and more to update the map.
Adrian here, from the southern suburbs of Cape Town. I’m new to Waze, but I’m a big contributor to OpenStreetMap so I have a lot of experience with the concepts of map editing.
Any idea where I would start to actually becoming a waze map editor; the process of editing seems uncomplicated and i’ve been a waze user for ±2 Years. I have viewed all the video’s and using the actual editor map, however that’s as far as I’ve gotten - Location’s often travelled (General East Rand Area).
Thanking you for any further assistance in the future.
Good morning KG_MissTaken. Great to hear from you! You can start editing around the routes you regularly travel and in Waze Map Editor you’ll find your last trips by selecting the “Drives” tab. As a Level 1 editor, you can edit 1 Mile / 1.6 km around your driven routes. I’ve sent you a PM, with scripts that will assist your editing.
