San Antonio Ramp Closure- Update Maps

The Westbound I-10 Ramp to Eastbound Loop 1604 in San antonio is permanetly closed. This is part of the 1604 expansion project.

Please update your maps.

Scott

Hello! I’m one of the volunteers in San Antonio that has been working to keep the map up to date during the expansion project. Waze has had the old I-10 WB ramp to Loop 1604 EB ramp permanently closed since 12:00 PM on April 15th. For routing, Waze will usually (see exception below) direct you to take the exit ramp immediately after UTSA Blvd, drive on the I-10 Frontage Rd, turn right on the Loop 1604 Frontage Rd, and enter Loop 1604 EB. This is the same detour that TxDOT has shared.

However, it’s possible it suggested another route. Waze’s routing server will always pick the fastest route, even if it saves only a few seconds. According to routing speed history, the fastest route is the TxDOT detour that Waze will normally suggest clocking in at 2 minutes and 52 seconds on average at 11:30 AM on a Friday (I’m assuming this happened in the last few hours, but I can check the average times in 30 minute increments for any day of the week). The second fastest route is taking the old exit and taking the remaining open 3/4 cloverleaf interchange to go from I-10 WB to Loop 1604 EB clocking in at 3 minutes and 52 seconds on average. It is possible that at the time you were driving, the Frontage Rd route was backed up enough that Waze would direct you to take what appears to be the closed exit, but in reality it was not directing you to take the old ramp but instead the current fastest route through the cloverleaf (that shared the same exit ramp as the closed ramp) due to traffic conditions.

With that background, now comes the big question: Did Waze direct you to take a ramp that doesn’t exist in Waze? As in it told you to take the old exit and then go right as you were passing the barrier blocking the permanently closed ramp and when you didn’t it rerouted you to take a different route (either taking the clover or passing through the interchange and ending back up on I-10 WB)? If it did indeed direct you to take a ramp that no longer exists in Waze, let us know and we’ll work with you to submit logs and have Waze employees investigate why it directed you to take a ramp that hasn’t been open in Waze for 10 days.

Appreciate your response and help to keep Waze updated! Yes it continues to take me to to the closed exit.

If possible, and safe, can you get a screenshot of the app routing you on the closed ramp so Mike can look more deeply into the issue?

You can just post it here.

Mike may alao chime in witj more requests to help him.

Thanks

Seconding what jm6087 said. If safe, can you please get a screenshot (or recording) of the bad route and post it here. I ran a few simulated routes earlier today and was unable to get it to route me on that ramp.

I know it may be difficult to get a screenshot until Monday due to all of the closures happening this weekend there. I just finished adding the scheduled closures TxDOT announced for that interchange.

Following up to see if you have been able to get a screenshot or video of it attempting to route you on the closed ramp?

If you had the mobile experience to repsond this would be so much easier. I am trying to show 2 screen shots of the trip from SA odd I 10 to 1604, but its not processing the pics.

IT IS still showing the closed exit on 1604.

I get that. These forums on my phone are not the best experience. If they’re still having trouble processing, feel free to email them to me at mikepediawaze@gmail.com so I can troubleshoot.
