San Diego CA, I-15 Express Lanes

This segment of the I-15 Express Lanes is set to a Level of 5 when all segments around it are at zero.

I dont see a reason to have it at level 5?

Traveling northbound in the express lanes to a destination many miles to the north, Waze suggests that I exit at Carroll Canyon instead of staying on the express lanes. The only logical explination I can find is this section of the express lanes set to Level 5. Can it be set to zero to match the other segments around it?

Thanks,
-Justin

Levels should have no effect on routing. But I have done what you have asked. So if it works then we will know otherwise.

Please report back after the update and your drive.

Thanks

Thanks, jemay. I agree that levels should have no effect on routing. But I was experiencing odd routing through the area and that is the only factor that stuck out.

Ill keep an eye on the update rollouts and report afterwards.

Thanks for your help.

Doing a little more research, I found this: https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-117.1107&lat=32.94323&zoom=5&layers=BFTFFTTTTTTTTTTTFTTTTFT&segments=68717475
We know that if the freeways have different names it can cause the routing to do things weird (like off and on freeways)

First lets test what we have changed already, then in 4 or 5 days and there is no change to your issue, then we change this segment to match (and delete the unnecessary node), which should then fix the issue.

Sounds like a plan. Ill keep you posted.

The update should be live ( http://status.waze.com/ ), so refresh your data on the phone and test away…

Thanks.

Ill report back after my commute north this evening.

As predicted, the level change didn’t correct the navigation problem. It has to be the mislabeled segment that you found.

Thanks for the report back.

Ok, I have changed the name, removed the extra node and removed the city on the next segment.

So, on your drive back from work on Monday you can check my changes.

Again, Thanks for working with me and testing things out and making things work.

Will do. Thanks for your help.

Well, the saga continues. Odd routing is still occurring.

My next theory: anthyz has used a combination of ramps and parking lot roads to map the transitions to and from Express Lanes contrary to the wiki. Here is one example of a ramp that should be a parking lot road.

My name is on the some of the segments likely because I fixed some node issues a while back (revcon, softcon) and/or perhaps adjusted some geometry. I’ve mostly left the handling of the express lanes to other editors since I do not use them myself. Changing that particular segment to be a parking lot road may help, but then all of the other segments connecting to the express lanes need to be checked and changed as well to be consistent. Additionally, per the wiki all of the turns onto these parking lot road segments and the segments they connect to should be disabled as well. Disabling the turns doesn’t seem like a good idea to me, but I was not a part of the discussion around this stated partial solution.

Justin,

A few of us CMs have been in discussion regarding the whole I-15 Express Lanes / HOT lanes and they needs to be revised to make them work as a HOT lanes. We will reach out to you to be able to validate the changes when they occur.

So hold on and changes are coming…

Thanks

Anthyz, thanks for the input.

Sounds good, jemay. Looking forward to the updates.
