[Script] WME Image Overlays (1.5.4)

Great script. Coupled with actual drives using high accuracy GPS and then importing those files … this script helps with areas we can’t get to. Really rounds out new area mapping capability. THANK YOU!

This is an amazing script. I just used it to draw the polygon for a new park from a county map. Thank you so much for this tool. Very easy to use.

Version 0.8.1 is out now.
This version includes the en-GB language strings bugfix and adds a one-time warning message about which data sources are allowed to be used in the Waze map.

I had reasoned that this script would most likely not be used by lower leveled editors who aren’t aware yet about which data sources are fine to use and which aren’t, but just to be on the safe side I’ve added a one-time warning that can’t be clicked away immediately that explains which sources are safe to use and which aren’t. Please note that you won’t get to see this warning message if you are rank 4 or higher already.

Version 0.8.2 has just been released.
This version fixes the issue with the script activation with a missing trailing slash in the URL and adjusts the link used at the version to point to this topic instead of to GreasyFork.

Awesome! Thank you.

Version 0.8.3 has been released. This includes a fix for a breaking issue in beta WME and some improvements to how the script works if the WME is using a language other than English.

This script makes me about as happy as WMEFU does!

I would like to ask if you’d reconsider adding the vertical and horizontal stretch options, though.

If not, I can do it client side as well, so no huge deal.

THANK YOU!

I haven’t said I wouldn’t do them. I just said I currently don’t see that functionality as a priority
When I get around to implementing what I have in mind, you should be able to stretch the image any way you want. Just know that I won’t even be using the Waze soon™ indication for it as it might take me even longer than that to get started on it.

While I am attempting to adjust the image, If I use the “-” control, the image I am trying to overlay disappears, and I cannot find it again. Adjusting opacity makes no difference.

Is there something I can do to bring it back?

Thanks for your help

Hmm, I haven’t had it happen that an image really disappears, but I do notice that when you are zoomed out, the minus button for some reason makes the image a LOT smaller in one click. I intended to have the minus and plus buttons decrease and increase the size in the same amounts, so something seems to go wrong there. Perhaps that is what you experienced?

If not: have you looked in the web console of your browser for any error messages when this occurs? (Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+K, Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+i > “console” tab)

Unfortunately, since the WME upgrade, I cannot see the WME Image Overlay tab.

Weird. It still shows up fine here. I had prepared almost all of my scripts for the new WME design in advance and this one didn’t even need any changes.

Strange. It is still working for me.

It is working again for me, too.
I turned off all the Tampermonkey scripts except this one.

  • With a pretty small image file, I do not see this problem.
  • With a larger jpg map (3486 Kb), I do see this problem.
  • I do not see any console errors, but I do see a lot of the warning “[Violation] Added non-passive event listener to a scroll-blocking ‘touchmove’ event…”

Can you explain in more detail which problem you’re seeing? Is the tab not loading at all?
As for the console errors: that’s something that is part of the WME itself and has nothing to do with my script. It is hopefully going to be handled by Waze rather soon™.

Here is the jpg that caused the problem for me:
http://www.kgm.gov.tr/SiteCollectionImages/KGMimages/Haritalar/b11.jpg

  • download jpg to desktop
  • Zoom all the way out in WME
  • Use WME Image overlays to load this file - b11.jpg
  • “+” that jpg a few times to make it bigger, and recenter it to make it match better. I was trying to match it to lake golu in the SE part of Turkey.
  • then “-” that jpg.
  • You will not see that jpg anymore, no matter how you change the opacity. The only thing to do is use “cancel” in WME Image Overlays.

Yeah, that seems like the same bug I saw before. I’ll try to get it fixed tonight.

Version 0.8.4 has been released, this should fix the issue that downscaling an image can pretty much make it disappear.

Thank you for this valuable tool, but…

Please, please, please, can we get finer movement and sizing controls? (individual horizontal and vertical sizing would also be very nice)

It probably isn’t true, but it feels like this last update made the controls considerably coarser. It appears that I get the same giant moves regardless of the zoom level now.

I haven’t forgotten about that, but this was just a quick fix. Apart from the upscaling and downscaling I haven’t changed anything in the latest release. I manage various other userscripts, not all of them publicly, as well as several tools and websites, so I’m spread quite thin along all these projects. That task is somewhat part of the todo-list I have for this script.
