[Script] WME Place Harmonizer v1.2

Was just coming back to add: there are existing businesses actually named Fast Mart and FastMart, so no, we really should not add the false name to Fas Mart.

We can’t be responsible for VTT errors.

The gas station wiki says to add the convenience store as an alt name. That seems fine with me; I’m not sure how many convenience stores actually have separate phone numbers and URLs, or how many people would search for them separately from the gas station. From looking at PNH it seems like common practice to add the convenience store category to gas stations, so it makes sense to add the convenience store alt name as well in those cases.

If there are standalone Fas Marts then it might make sense to map the GS-associated ones separately as well, because then it’s more of its own brand rather than just a part of a gas station. I could see doing that for 7/11 for example. Might be worth proposing a change to the GS wiki.

Parks and Golf Course types come to mind most immediately. I’ve run into parks which I know for a fact exist, but don’t even appear in GM, let alone have a link to them in it. Same with Golf Courses. I’ve encountered golf courses which have more than one area mapped out, and only one of those areas actually has a Google Link to it. The other is part of that course property, but is located a mile or two away from the “main” course, and even has a slightly different name. Linking the “off” place with the same Google Link that’s already linked to the “main” course would just generate confusion, and might not help with navigation all that much.

Here is one such example where the “sister” course owned by the same property doesn’t even appear on Google Maps, and there is no Google Link available for it. Different address, same home web site (with pages dedicated to each course area). Putting the same Google Link on this as its partner course (scroll a bit to the south to see it) would not do anything towards improving navigation. There won’t be a duplicate search result in the app, 'cause Google Maps isn’t going to return a hit on it.

I’m thinking there are others that I’ve encountered, but those are the two types that come to mind immediately. They’re the ones that most often still don’t have a Google Link when I’m dealing with the Big Red Annoying Area after I last added or worked on an existing Place that didn’t have a Google Link at that time.

And I always add a Google Link to a Place when I’m working on it. If I didn’t add it, it isn’t there. Or at least, we didn’t have the external link function when I did the last add or edit to that place. I don’t mind running into those (where the place was completed before the advent of the external link function and hasn’t been touched since), but once I’ve ascertained that it’s something that’s not likely to get one, I want to turn off the alert. Permanently. I’m not interested in having it requiring me to “nudge” it every six months.

I’m not saying take it out for everybody, I’m just asking that we be given an option to turn that particular alert off if we know what we’re doing and really don’t want it. I use given WME tools because they help me with various functions that aren’t built into the native editor. What I don’t need, and don’t appreciate, is a tool that nags me about something. If it gets annoying the the point where the “con” of the annoyance factor starts outweighing the “pro” of the other helpful functions provided by a tool, I start thinking about whether or not I even want to continue using that tool. Please, this tool needs to be a help, not a nag.

Edit: Cemeteries are another category I just thought of, where I’ve run into ones that do exist, but don’t show up in GM or have a corresponding link.

I’m not sure if this is already in the script, but can the Google link be whitelisted so that it does not cause the six month reminder for places that are likely to never have a Google link?

No, it’s not already in the script - otherwise, I’d already be using it for those places that aren’t likely to ever get a Google link.

My apologies if this has already been discussed, but since HNs are not required for PLAs when a parking lot name is present, would it be possible/advisable not to flag for a missing HN? Also, since a website and phone number are generally not required for PLAs unless there is a third party operator, would it be a good idea not to flag the missing website and phone if there is no operator specified?

Some convenience stores in our area (Wawa for example) have gas stations, some don’t. When I run the script on a Wawa that does not have a GS, it comes up red with “Gas Station is not the primary category”. The place will turn green when saving, but each time the script is run on that Wawa, it comes back red with that message. Can a WL option be added so this error can be disabled for these places on a case by case basis?

The reason it is showing up like that is because the PNH spreadsheet only has one line for Wawa as a GS/Convenience Store. I think that your PNH Moderator can add a separate line for the Convenience Store only stores. This is how we have it for 7-Elevens with no GS.

Yes, it considers all Wawa to have GS. If the separate line is easier than the WL, then I’ll try that route.
Who are the moderators?
EDIT: NVM, I found the list.

In the 64 bit version of Firefox 54, I get a “CODE BLUE: -1” when loading WME and WMEPH.

Thanks, I will pass on to the script writers to review. I don’t see any issues in Chrome WME or WME Beta.

I couldn’t find anything in the code regarding a “CODE BLUE”. Are you sure it is being reported by WMEPH? Maybe a conflict with another script?

Rechecked that, sorry, my fault… it’s WME Validator.

Good luck getting it fixed. I am not sure if Validator is being updated anymore.

It is not

On gas stations…similar to the Add Convenience Store Category “Yes” button. Could there also be an Add Car Wash Category “Yes” button?

Thanks,
I will pass on to the script writer for consideration.

This is a great idea if it is doable

Really enjoying this tool as it continues to evolve for much better and more accurate data entry. I was curious about another possible feature - this one involving lobby and pharmacy hours (hours that belong in the description). The logic currently allows for a message notification to pop up when a pharmacy is identified to add such related hours. Is there any chance that the API for entering and standardizing hours could be invoked and inserted into the Description box en lieu of that message?

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve added it to the ToDo list to evaluate.
