[Script] WME Place Interface Enhancements

Thanks for the feedback. I don’t want to jump to the conclusion that they made wrong decisions. Unless I get more details, I prefer to assume they’re making the right decisions for Waze based on the information they have at the moment. Whether or not those decisions are painful for us is, unfortunately, a lower priority compared to legal considerations. I’m just glad they’re aware of the pain we’re feeling and are looking into a solution

I don’t want to get into the legal aspect, but Waze and Google already share many things. In fact, the simple fact that WME allows you to link to a Google place already shows us that there is a relationship between the systems. PIE was just creating ways to improve this integration. The moment Waze decided to remove this integration without having a better solution first, it is a mistake. Waze and Google need to move forward together, looking forward, not backward. In any case, we hope for positive news.

redacted - duplicate post made by mistake and I can’t find a way to delete this one.

It definitely doesn’t make sense, but I have to imagine there are layers to the legal aspects of this that we do not know about.

Exactly. The point is, we just don’t know right now. Saying they’ve made bad decisions or mistakes here implies some incompetence, and I don’t think that’s fair without having all the evidence.

We want be able to maintain at all Google-Waze Place connection if this script is not working properly. I welcome all external link features back, and I still miss highlighting Google Location on hovering over the external link. Best regards.

Hey everyone,

Following Maia’s reply, I wanted to let you know that we are still working on a daily basis on this matter, together with the script writer (thanks Mike!). Although in the initial review suggested that the script should be disabled, we continue to investigate with a variety of legal teams in Waze and Google.
It’s not a trivial process, but we are still under legal consultation. ]

We appreciate your understand and patience, we’ll keep you posted as soon as we have news - But please notice that this might take time.

Hey all,

I just wanted to keep you posted that we are still doing everything that we can to support some functionalities of the script.
A few of Waze staff members have met with Mike to do a demo of the script, making sure we didn’t miss anything. We have passed the recording of the demo to other stakeholders, to find ways to support it. Currently, I don’t have more updates, but I’ll keep you posted once there are news.

Thank you for your patience with this one, we are aware of how important the script is to the community.

Hello everyone!

It may not be the right section to find a solution to my issue, but since many of you use the PIE script, I thought I’d ask here.

Everything works except for the custom shortcuts. I’ve tried multiple variations, but I still can’t get them to work. The console recognizes the key I’ve bound, but I can’t determine whether this is an issue with the script, Tampermonkey, or if it’s restricted to a certain editor level.

Thanks for your answers!

We may need more details about “custom shortcuts” - what are you trying to do?
Make sure that custom shortcuts do not “overlap” with other shortcuts in WME

Something I am still working on (intermittently) since native WME broke the custom PIE menu.

I’m sorry, it is the CustomItem1 which is customizable. For example you can create a point element /poi/.
I also pretty sure it’s not interfere with any other shortcut.

I think MoM is still working with staff to figure this out.

I hope they will allow this soon - is helping to improve Google Maps as well!

When I hover over an external provider, the location of the location no longer appears on the map as it did before in the form of a yellow circle.

@EsdrasFarao correct. As is mentioned in the last several posts, that functionality was disabled at the request of Waze. We are hoping for a resolution in the near future, but it’s a complicated issue.

The Google Link Enhancer has been partially fixed. A few notes:

  • It does not show the Google place location (yellow dot) when hovering over results in the External Provider search dropdown box like it used to. This likely won’t be added again, per Waze’s request.
  • If you have a place selected when you load WME, e.g. in a PL, the Google place info won’t be loaded unless you deselect the place and reload WME. I’m looking into a fix for that.

This is great news.
Is there a way to sort/filter the Google PL by distance or region? It can be frustrating adding a PL when the first 3 or 4 results are in a different state, or even a different country.
I seem to recall earlier versions of the script (a number of years ago) used to sort the results by distance.
