Several issues with East Road, Houston TX

I have been taking a relative to this destination:

1941 East Rd Houston TX 77054

That’s correct, according to the USPS.

Waze accepts the address but offers a choice between the above, and:

1941 E Houston Rd Houston TX (with no ZIP code)

There are several problems:

  1. If an address is good, waze should accept it and not offer an alternative. It wastes a step and could be confusing to a driver who was not certain of the location.

The name “East Rd” may be part of the confusion. However, we can’t do anything about it, that’s the official name.

  1. If waze gives an alternative, then this address should exist, shouldn’t it? But I don’t believe this one exists.

There is a an Houston Road, near this location

East Houston Road, Houston, TX 77028

But I don’t think the street number 1941 can possibly be correct.

a. Yahoo and Here.com can’t find it.

b. MapQuest accepts it, but suggests that the number is not valid and offers the range of 5200-5242.

c. The USPS doesn’t know that address, and offers this instead:

1941 E Houston Ave, Houston TX 77007

d. On my tablet, Google (not Maps) offered this:

1941 E Mt Houston Rd Houston, TX 77050

Is the destination you’re going to on UT Houston’s South Campus?

Here’s the lat/long: 29.694089,-95.393815

That address is not at issue, it’s correct. The problem is, waze doesn’t accept it at first but instead assumes there may be an error and offers an alternative. I think that’s not good behavior. I’m using “Shortcuts for Waze” which is much quicker than using the waze Favorites list. With other addresses, it’s just one tap and go. With this one, waze in effect asks, " Are you sure? Maybe you mean this one instead?"

The other issue is, the alternative address offered by waze is flat wrong. It simply doesn’t exist.

You still haven’t answered my question.

But that’s not the point. Waze takes me to the right place. But why does it offer an alternative address especially one that doesn’t exist?

That’s an excellent question and one I can get to the bottom of. Although, I did notice one thing. If you DON’T use commas, Waze will always give you the other options.

1941 East Rd, Houston, Tx is different than
1941 East Rd Houston as Waze thinks you want to go to E Houston Rd, but may have gotten confused with the road name and directionality, which is why Waze gives you the other road options.

Interesting, I’ll keep it in mind. But adding the comma doesn’t help this time. When I ask for

“1941 East Rd, Houston, TX” (with or without ZIP),

waze still offers the non-existent “1941 E Houston Rd”

1941 E Houston Rd exists, somewhere. It’s actually E Mt Houston Rd, Houston, Tx

Yes, “E Mt. Houston Road” exists, and apparently 1941 is a valid street address.

But there is no “1941 E Houston Rd”. Several sources suggest that the valid address range is 5200-5242.
