Share info Waze & Google maps

Does anybody know, is it possible to merge Googles traffic data with the Waze app. At present, Waze is of no benefit whatsoever if you travel when roads are busy as there are too few active users. I’m sure the Waze community in Ireland would grow substantially if Google Traffic was overlaid. It must be possible, as Co-Pilot seems to have done so.

I notice CoPilot is a commercial product and you have to pay for live traffic - so I imagine they’re probably buying traffic information from Google or some other provider.

Anyway, even though Waze is now owned by Google, and Google uses some of Waze’s traffic data for its own maps, the same doesn’t seem to happen in reverse. I agree that it might be handy if Google traffic data could be used by Waze, but I don’t think there’s anything we can do to make that happen.

What I think might be more useful for encouraging more Waze users in Ireland is to get more of the country mapped. The larger cities and many of the larger towns are reasonably well mapped, as are the main roads, but many smaller towns, many villages and a vast number of back roads need a lot of mapping work. If users could be confident that Waze would get them to and from wherever they want to go, and not just in large cities, then that might grow the community.

I wouldn’t be so sure… I gets lot of heavy traffic showing on roads that never have heavy traffic, my guess on that is that Google data from android cyclists is to blame. We don’t have many users up north, although we have exponentially more than we did, but not enough to show on back roads that are cyclist heavy (I’m also
a cyclist)

The data sharing may be one way, or it may be ‘adjusted’ but I’m pretty sure it does happen no matter what HQ says.

And anyway the Google stuff is generally nonsense, just watch the traffic on maps…
