Dear Raider
Welcome and thank you for your participation in mini Map Raid for Sri Lanka, Colombo chapter improvement. This is very small map raid with the small number of participant. This raid is meant to improve the Sri Lanka map, especially the Colombo area. Many of the editors participate here, already experience in editing in Sri Lanka, so this is not a new thing anymore. But one thing make a very big difference now, ninety percent of Sri Lanka area now covered with Waze Street View. So please use that as a very important tool for this Raid.
There will be coming in the future, another raid for Sri Lanka to improve another area as well. Please help us in that process also.
The purposes of this raid based on importance are as follow
- Improve connectivity to all road.
a. All participant need to check the segment connected. Please pay attention to the Turn Restriction, road level, junction nodes, etc. USE STREET VIEW extensively to confirm the segment connected.
b. Please use consistent road type and consistent city name for all major road. USE STREET VIEW extensively to confirm
c. If you are using a tool or script, you are fully responsible for its use and its consequences. Please make sure that you understand the features of the script you are using. You will be held accountable for any side effects. - Correct base map geometry (positioning, geometry nodes, angle, etc.).
a. In many places the base map went very bad. This is due to during creation, the wazer that created the segment use paving or maybe insufficient satellite imagery. Please correct those segments. It may be useful to delete all geometry nodes using tool box and started all over again to position the map against sat image. Do not forget to USE STREET VIEW extensively in this process.
Since Sri Lanka now covered by 90 percent of street view. It will be better to draw a segment which has streetview in it. It will be more accurate.
b. When correcting the positioning please always use zoom bigger than zoom 6. During re positioning, it is suggested to use Zoom 7 or Zoom 8. Do not use zoom 5 during positioning the segment. Using Zoom 5 or smaller will create bad segment draw. It is affect the accuracy of the segment draw in the apps
c. In Base Map areas, mass edits are allowed, as long as they are constructive to the map. For your information, Waze throttles your edits and points when scripts are used excessively, meaning that you don’t earn points for mass editing.
d. If you are using a tool or script, you are fully responsible for its use and its consequences. Please make sure that you understand the features of the script you are using. You will be held accountable for any side effects.
e. It is an editing standard to use micro-doglegs to force turn instruction. This involves carefully placing the node very close to the intersection to achieve the correct angle, so it will be necessary to zoom in to see them. If you make a change, be sure to leave them with the same angle
f. Road division: The map is not ready to be KISSed, or simplified. Roads that are divided by a solid middle part, are better drawn as two one-way lanes at this moment to avoid confusion for and editing mistakes by new editors.
g. Please use proper elevation for roads. Do not use excessive and illogical elevation. Ground should be the main elevation. The other elevation is based on ground. Underpass and overpass only have different elevation when they are upper or lower from the ground elevation. - Draw missing roads
a. In many places the map haven’t draw yet. This is due to during that day, nobody use waze and also sat image is very bad. Please draw those segments. Again, it is suggested to use Zoom 7 or Zoom 8. Do not use zoom 5 during drawing the segment. Using Zoom 5 or smaller will create bad segment draw. It is affect the accuracy of the segment draw in the apps

a. Use standard UR and MP solve procedure. The raid period is one month. During that day, all UR and MP should be solved. - Correct road names.
a. Before this Raid, road names doesn’t have standard. We would like to standardize the naming of the road. You can find the standard below
b. For Major Roads (Freeway, Major Highway, and Minor Highway), do not use city name in the naming.
Raid Areas
This mini Map Raid do not have groups like other map raid. The participant need to improve the map in Colombo and surrounding area.
Duration
The raid duration from 10 May 2016 to 10 June 2016
Road Type
Sri Lanka has 3 class of National highway (Class “A”, “B” & “E” Roads). Refer to http://www.rda.gov.lk/source/rda_roads.htm for more information
The purposes of this raid is to improve connectivity to all roads around Colombo with the emphasis on Major Roads. Major Roads are Freeway, Major Highway, and Minor Highway.
- Freeway / Motorway
a. Only Class E Roads belong to this road type
b. Currently only 3 class E roads available which is E001 Southern Expressway, E002 Outer Circular Highway, and E003 Colombo – Katunayake Expressway.
c. For Road Name please Use
i. E001 Southern Expressway
ii. E002 Outer Circular Highway
iii. E003 Colombo – Katunayake Expressway
d. Use no city for city name - Ramp
a. Only Class E interconnect belong to this road type
b. Use the sign board for naming
i. Exit name: Exit to XXX
ii. Entry name: Gate name
c. Use no city for city name - Major Highway
a. Class A (AA, AB, AC) roads belong to this road type
b. For road naming please use as example below
i. AA000 Kollupitiya - Sri Jayewardenepura, please write A00 Kollupitiya - Sri Jayewardenepura
ii. AA001 Colombo - Kandy, please write A01 Colombo - Kandy
iii. AB001 Ampara - Inginiyagala, please write AB01 Ampara - Inginiyagala
c. Use no city for city name
d. Certain AC road has another name on it, use it as follow
i. AC002 Bauddhaloka Mawatha (Buller’s Road) as Primary Name
ii. Buller’s Road as alternate name - Minor Highway
a. Class B roads belong to this road type
b. For road naming please use as example below
i. B611 Thitthawella – Gonagama
c. Use no city for city name - Primary Streets / Streets
a. Local roads using this road type
b. PS use to connect major roads to local roads or between local roads
c. All other drivable roads should be set to Street
d. Use appropriate city name
e. Zoning for city name TBD later, currently if you don’t see any city name in neighborhood, please leave the city name empty
Locking Standard
As the map of Sri Lanka still needs a lot of improvement, we don’t want to lock too much that could block starting editors. However, to ensure routing, especially over larger distances, we do use locks for some roads according to the criteria below. Roads that need more protection because of special situations (construction, complicated design, frequent editing errors) may be locked higher. Make sure to thoroughly check the routing in the live map, before you lock the roads.

Speed Limit
The main purpose of this raid is to have a well-connected roads that can be useful for navigation, especially in the Colombo and area surrounding it. The speed limit is not the main goal. However, you are allowed to edit the speed limit.
Please refer to this guideline when you edit the speed limit.
a. Always refer to this official document for the speed limit. Read carefully before applying any speed limit.
b. Other than that, follow road sign board for more accurate speed limit. Always use street view extensively. It is very useful built in feature for editing.
c. If multiple speed limit apply, always prioritize speed limit for regular car like sedan. Lorry, truck, bus, motorcycle and three wheeler speed limit is not counted for now.
d. If multiple speed limit apply, always prioritize speed limit for day time speed limit.
e. Speed limit currently now is not supported for OTHER-DRIVABLE and NON-DRIVABLE roads. If you are encounter speed limit in private road or parking lot road, simply ignore it.
