Also, a way to see where the stop sign cameras are? Those are also new to Long Island, NY. If there is currently no way to see it, maybe this could be incorporated into Waze.
Cameras in the app are added after being reported by other Waze users or by us as local map editors who find lists provided by the ticketing entity. Do you have locations that need to be added? If possible, any pictures of the cameras to prove they are there will help us confirm and add them to the app.
As it stands, I don’t think any are currently being used anywhere in the state. Saddle Rock had some installed, but they had to be removed because camera enforcement programs have to be legally approved through the State Legislature first. At the moment, the bill proposing them is still in committee: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2023/A10169/amendment/A
Here’s a news story for reference as well: https://www.post-journal.com/news/top-stories/2024/05/stop-sign-camera-pilot-program-proposed/
Just a note that stop sign cameras were added as an alert to Waze this morning. However, as I mentioned before, I don’t think they are legally enforceable in the state [yet]. We’ll keep an eye out on the news over the next legislative session to see if it passes, and feel free to post here if you see any news stories about it.
