All,
After searching the getting started wiki, best practices wiki and this forum, I have not found any clear guidance on my question. If there is a clear answer, I would like to see it added to best practices for parking lots.
Scenario is a store or building set back from the road or street far enough that the street address pin cannot be on the entrance. The correct answer for this is to drop a place point in the correct location and add the address info. However, this address information was already contained in the street house address.
I am of the opinion that the number should exist in only one location and the point place marker should override any pre-existing street marker. Otherwise, if I were the Waze app, I would be confused.
What is the guidance?
Waze treats search for addresses and POI somewhat differently. Thus, I don’t think that dropping a place point in the correct location for a business set back from the road will cause waze to route correctly to the address of the business. It should cause waze to route correctly to the name of the place.
I sort of agree with you that the address should only exist in one location. But this seems to be a fundamental design flaw with the way the waze is set up. We have both a house number layer and a places layer that capture the address data apparently independently.
At this point, the guidance still seems to be to not include house numbers in the house number layer for businesses where the destination stop point is not the named street, such as when there is a mapped parking lot road. However, this does seem to result in defaulting to other data than the place point for an addresses search. This does seem like a waste of good information.
I had a similar problem with Waze not navigating to the correct block. I adjusted house number and place address, but it didn’t help. Then I found out the problem was due to Google’s placement of their pin. Waze (and Google Maps) use it for navigation. I moved the pin to the right location and it’s all good.
Go here and see if it’s wrong for the address you’re investigating:
