Hello, Waze Team,
I would like to propose several improvements to the Live Map, especially regarding hazard reporting, communication features, and real-time information sharing.
Currently, Waze allows users to report hazards only from the mobile app. However, the Live Map does not allow submitting new hazard reports, adding supplementary information, or communicating with users near a specific location. In real-world situations, important safety information often comes from external sources such as:
- YouTube live streams or news videos
- Posts on X (formerly Twitter)
- Municipal disaster alerts
- Wildlife sightings (e.g., bears) reported by local communities
When this information is not yet reflected in Waze, nearby drivers cannot be warned in time.
Proposed Features
1. Allow submitting new hazard reports directly from the Live Map
Users should be able to report hazards based on verified external information.
2. Allow adding supplementary notes to existing hazard reports
Examples:
- “Confirmed via YouTube live stream — still ongoing.”
- “Local authorities reported another bear sighting.”
- “Police have arrived on the scene.”
3. Display warnings to drivers near the affected area
This improves safety by helping drivers avoid dangerous locations.
4. Enable Live Map chat and location-based messaging
Currently, chat is only available between mobile app users.
Allow Live Map users to:
- Send chat messages to users near a specific point
- Leave notes or warnings directly on the map
- Participate in real-time communication from PC
- Share hazard updates without using the mobile app
5. Enable communication with disaster‑affected areas via the Live Map
During natural disasters, real-time road information is critical.
However, the current Waze system does not provide a way to exchange essential information such as: “What supplies are lacking?”, “Which roads are blocked?”, “Where is help needed?”
Adding this feature would allow:
- Sending messages to users near disaster‑affected locations
- Local users posting real-time updates about road conditions or missing supplies
- Sharing information about flooding, landslides, blocked routes, or closures
- Marking evacuation centers or supply distribution points on the map
- Allowing PC users to assist in disaster information sharing
Expected Benefits
- More comprehensive and timely hazard information
- Improved safety in wildlife-prone and disaster-prone regions
- Ability to exchange critical information with disaster‑affected areas
- Stronger community collaboration and communication
- Enhanced role of Waze as a safety-focused navigation platform
