We’ve received a map update request to Waze support and we’re posting here on the user’s behalf. The link to this post will be forwarded for the user to follow up.
This is the user’s request: The Waze map navigated me in the wrong direction to my destination. ??
from : 2 Bamboo Court, Doveton Vic 3177
Destination: 40 Bareena Ave, Rowville Vic 3178
Waze map took me via power rd - monash free way - exit waverley rd - u turn towards stud rd - to the destination??
The most logical way: Bamboo Court - kidds rd - right turn to stud rd - to destination. Much shorter and logical way
Hi to the original requester should you make it to this link.
I have investigated the routing form those locaytions and in typical fashion I get route choices one of which is the route you suggested. I do get a route that take me onto the fwy at Heatherton Rd and than exits at Stud Rd (which is the quickest route apparently)
I cant seem to rationalise Waverley Rd exit though - where is that?
I can’t see any errors in the mapping so it looks like Waze may have thought there were some traffic issues ahead and had suggested a detour.
Because Waze’s navigation is based on a combination of historic (based on time of day) and live traffic data, sometimes it will offer a suboptimal route like this. If a Wazer has just reported bad traffic conditions (either manually or automatically by driving slowly) Waze may try to avoid it even if the traffic has cleared by the time you approach the same road. If you can see the way ahead is clear then just proceed, your fresh data will then inform Waze that it’s ok for other Wazers to be taken that way.
Sometimes these types of detours are because Waze doesn’t have enough speed data for the alternative route - if you have the time it can help Waze and other Wazers by driving the alternative, it will then know how bad (or good) that route is. You may even find a totally fresh route for yourself! If you know the alternative route is not permitted (eg because of turn restrictions) then please make a report to that effect. We can then change the maps and prevent Waze offering that route again.
