Suggested new feature: allow the head-up display of the car (BMW) to show the next navigation instruction (arrow, distance, …) when using Apple Carplay.

As map editors, we unfortunately have no influence on the functionality of the app itself. However, we’re always happy to provide background information about how things work.
At the moment, it’s unfortunately not possible to show Waze navigation instructions in the BMW head-up display via Apple CarPlay. Right now, BMW only supports this feature for its own navigation system. Although the newest updates now allow Waze directions to appear in the digital instrument cluster of certain BMW models, bringing this to the head-up display would require support from BMW.
For this feature to work, BMW would need to open up HUD access to third-party apps via CarPlay, Once that has been achieved, Waze can work on a possible enhancement of the functionality of the app.

Google Maps are available on a HUD already. Why not Waze?

BMW only supports this feature for its own navigation system.
This is wrong. Google Maps & Apple Maps support Head-Up Display navigation on BMWs.
It is not the case so far with Waze. It would be really useful and safer to have this feature.

I drive a BMW X3 myself, and unfortunately, the 2022 version doesn’t support this feature either.
As map editors, we don’t have any influence on the Waze app’s functionalities or the integration options with car manufacturers’ in-car systems.

@searchjaunt Could you please tell about Mazda cx 90. Do you have limitation on your side or Mazda limited. I have Mazda cx 90. When I use Android auto with Waze, HUD shows additional information from the navigator. But when I connect Apple CarPlay HUD doesn’t show the same information.
If Android shows, I think, Mazda gives access to HUD API. And I don’t understand why it doesn’t work with Apple CarPlay Waze app

Hi, I’m also using a 2022 Acura RDX A-Spec Advance, and I’d love to see Waze support for the HUD as well. It would be really helpful if Waze could display directions on the head-up display just like Apple Maps does
