With the private message system changes in process (Forum Discussion), I am temporarily modifying the two templates that depended on the prior operation.
Both templates implemented a temporary, limited solution. I have not thought through the final solution as I am still hoping there may be additional changes to improve this situation using some of the original system, but I am not holding my breath.
At this time, I don’t see a way to link Wazeopedia directly to a chat with another user as we have done in the past.
I will submit a feature request to support it, but until that happens, I suppose we need to consider having the two templates “educate” users for how to send a PM in the new system.
OK. I have a temporary fix to that noted problem. I was trying to find a way to have the PM link send users to a landing page where we explain the changes to private messages and then still give them the link to the target user, but I was unable to find a way to send a parameter to a non-template page and then have that page send the original parameter on to the template. Maybe I missed something, so if anyone can come up with a solution to that, please let me know and I can update this temporary solution.
The temporary solution is to expand the {{PM}} template added a second hyperlink to the explanation landing page with [Help]. The idea is if they click on the PM link today, our only automated link is to the Map Editor profile page where they have to select the Message button. It is not intuative, so if they come back to the page I’m hoping they see the [Help] link and select it.
I have requested the dev team consider adding a method to send someone directly to a user’s forum profile page and place them in the message box. We’ll see what that brings.
Alternatively, if someone knows how to link to the user’s forum profile page from just their username (as we had in the past to the messaging system), please let me know and I can go to that page instead of the Map Editor profile page. I think the forum page is more intuative to reach the private message button.
