I had a look but couldn’t find an answer for my question.
How to mark speed camera which is mobile and therefore only for several hours tops?
As speed camera, it is not great as needs to be approved and stays there for ever (until deleted).
As police then it is not indicating that it is a speed trap.
So how to do it best? Should be an option for mobile speed camera and treated as any other hazard or so report.
I thought the consensus was to mark at as police, as you’d be daft to speed past them.
I’d wait for the official line though.
The official line, as laid down in the UK wiki right here, is to report them as Police.
Thanks. Police is marked often for some accidents, pullovers on motorways etc. which might be a bit confusing. Personally, police reports I kind of ignore… Ideally, it would be as temp camera, but I guess for now that is the workaround…
Of course, people can and do report things incorrectly, but there is an “accident” icon for reporting accidents.
And the relentless reports of “police” whenever a VOSA car is just parked up… !!
That’s because there are often Police present at accidents or breakdowns, however they may have moved off by the time you drive past.
Sounds a bit daft to ignore Police reports, I do a lot of driving and don’t see that many Police reports to cause a problem. Personally I don’t care if it is a mobile camera, accident or police monitoring traffic, I use it as a reminder to check my speed, distance to the car in front and all round observation as traffic may suddenly change lanes or brake sharply. I don’t see the logic in thinking that it is probably only an accident and not a camera therefore speed doesn’t matter.

Agreed. If anything, where there’s both an accident and police markers at the same spot, it can often indicate an accident which really needs to be paid attention to, so if you’re approaching it with no choice but to drive by then be even more cautious on approach than you ought to be anyway, and if you’re still some distance away and have the option of taking an alternate route (even if Waze is still suggesting that driving right past it is the better option) then you probably ought to seriously consider doing so…
It’s a bit like the argument over why we mark static speed cameras - even if you never ever exceed the limit yourself and therefore have no need to know where the cameras are from a licence preservation perspective, it’s an absolute certainty that other drivers nearby will do stupid stuff when they suddenly see the camera and go into “ohshitidontwantthreepointsquickhitthebrakes” mode. So knowing there’s a camera up ahead is still valuable information to the non-speeder, as it gives you advance notice that the stretch of road ahead will temporarily turn some of your fellow road-users into gibbering idiots who have no idea how to drive.
Don’t see many VOSA cars around these 'ere parts, but Highways Agency 4x4s on the other hand…
Even saw one police report left for a broken down car, bonnet open, that’d been parked on one of the police perches presumably with the thought that it was safer to be up there than to stay on the hard shoulder. I really hope the user in question was just out to grab an easy couple of points with that report, because if they genuinely thought an obviously broken down car with absolutely no markings, light bars or anything else that might even remotely hint at the possibility of it being a police vehicle, actually was a police car, then I’d be worried about their general powers of observation from behind the wheel :shock:

I have seen photos of speed traps abroad, where the police use a regular car with a bonnet up and a mobile detection unit in front! So anything is possible LOL

I couldnt see the original question posted here but i am going to assume it’s the one i came looking for an answer too.
I.e. What’s the general idea for reporting a mobile speed camera? (That is a roads and traffic authority controlled unit or the sort of camera van the police Park up for half a day. It’s not your usual cop car/speed trap).
Personally id like to see a “mobile speed camera” option which lasts for 2 hours as apposed to the 15 min police report.
Opinions please?

Reports only time out if no-one is giving them thumbs ups, so most mobile camera reports in the UK do stay around quite a while. If they’re disappearing too quickly in Australia it’s either because there aren’t enough Wazers passing by to keep the reports active, or because Aussie wazers aren’t as keen to dish out thumbs ups…

You will find that, for quite a few of these “Mobile Safety Scameras”, they have regular positions/locations which they visit so an option for permanently positioned warning appropriately named would be a better option than a “Police” warning on the day, especially as the “Police” warning will disappear after 30 mins.
In fact, having options “Variable Speed Camera” and “SPECS” or “Average Speed Camera” would also be nice.

First of all, I would say you should not be driving in a bus lane anyway and Waze should do nothing to help drivers do so.
Secondly, do you know what a bus lane camera looks like? For sure they are not big square boxes with fluorescent backs on the in order to be noticed. Driving in bus lanes is far less a safety issue and far more an enforcement one.
Thirdly, in London at least, I believe that most bus lane cameras are mobile - because they are mounted on buses!
Well the title of the post is mobile camera’s! :lol:
And before anyone mentions it we don’t need to include the thousands of Low Emission Zone cameras in London (which aren’t mobile). For those not familiar with London the LEZ covers most of Greater London, about 610 sq miles as against the 8 sq miles of the London Congestion Zone which is marked as a toll zone in Waze (during the day).
Maybe then, we (those that shall be attending) should put it to the Waze guys at the meet up that adding other types of camera should be added to the client. As for the low emission zone cameras, suggesting that they possibly think about adding a layer or a tick box for the roads that are in zones such as the London Low emission zone. Obviously this would work better if they allowed the type if vehicle to be set or selected in the app. I’m fairly sure this wouldn’t be too much of a bother now that they are allowing us to add the speed limit in the beta editor.
