Jane is clearly a Heathen.

Cmns as an abbreviation for Commons is being pronounced as “C M N S” by Jane.
Has this abbreviation been deprecated since the update to Jane (and the original abbreviation wiki page) or is it being worked on for an update?
whatnt:
Is there any word on including Ñ (énye) in Jane?
Waze is currently mispronouncing “Cañada” of the road here and the college name here like the country name.
The locals are stirring
Thanks.
Its a step better than before when it completely failed with the accent and inserted garbage in its place.
Can you tell us what it should sound like?
the ñ is supposed to make a “y” sound after the “n”. It’s why Spanish speakers say “hall-uh-pain-yo” as opposed to the English mis-pronunciation of “hal-ah-pee-NO” for jalapeño.
I have correction to add as well.
Shawano is pronounced how it looks (sha-wa-no). It’s a local Indian name that should be pronounced “Shaw-no” (only one “a”) https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-88.07164&lat=44.54410&layers=2981&zoom=6&segments=82286310
*edit - changed “Spanish” pronunciation approximation

Cmn and Cmns are both not supported by Jane. However they are both on a list we are actively checking to determine if we should add support for them. We should have a decision shortly, once we finish testing and researching the list.

Does this sound appropriate?
Cañada Rd

A few new proposed Jane corrections:
(1) CH-II https://goo.gl/tM4bn7 should be pronounced “county highway eye eye” instead of “county highway two”
(2) Oneida https://goo.gl/8iYNMV should be pronounced “Oh nye dah” (http://goo.gl/74kPmK) instead of “Oh nee dah”
(3) Lombardi https://goo.gl/xbM6Ng should be pronounced with an “r” sound “lom bar dee” instead of “lom bah dee”
Doran St has been corrected.

Based on my knowledge of the Spanish language, I think it should be more like cahn-ya-da road. I sent a PM to whatnt to check in here and give a local’s perspective.

Sounds good! Thanks PesachZ and KB_Steveo.

Which sounds good? The Cañada Rd that PesachZ made, or cahn-ya-da road?
The sound recording.
Found an UR to check Batavia, NY. Evidently Bah-tay-vee-ya isnt what’s coming out. Hope I got that part correct. Thank you!

Briley Pkwy is being pronounced as “Brilly” (rhymes with Billy) Parkway.
Should be pronounced “Briley” (rhymes with Riley) Parkway.

“Exits 14-1:” says “Exits 14 to 1” - yes, I know this should say Exit, not Exits. Nearby Exit 14B-61 works correctly. It is possible that there are special rules for ^Exit \d±d+: … if so, I can make the fix, drop the s, and test, before proceeding.

There are rules, and the dash is handled differently when it is between digits vs letters by the TTS engine.
What do you think would be the natural way to read exit 14-1?

I’ve noticed that the ramps to I-65 sometimes say “I to 65” as well.

Staff is aware and trying to figure out why

14-1 has been there since forever - at least two years. The nearby 14B-61 reads the dash as a short pause. I’d be fine with either that or “fourteen dash one.”
