I posted this in the Wiki topic, but then figured more people would see it here.
I added a section to the To-Do list that may be helpful. Since Waze has said they will eventually add time-based turn restrictions to the editor I thought it would be helpful to have a list of those restrictions that we get from URs or know from experience. That way we can implement a lot of restrictions once the ability is finally added to the editor. You can go here to see the section I added.
Is this an alright place to post time restricted turn information? I know there is a wiki page but I am unfamiliar with how to update the wiki (and don’t want to make a mistake) plus it seems like the current format will be rather unwieldy once/if people start submitting data, they are very common downtown and I wanted to start making note of them somewhere on the site for when this feature goes live.
FYI, I did set a couple turn restrictions up in the Beta editor for some recent MPs I closed. Since the feature isn’t pushed out to the live environment, I did go back and disable the turn entirely to avoid problems for now. I would suggest if anyone else has WME beta access they do the same. That way we have a chunk of the work done and just need to enable the (restricted) turn once things go live.
Also note that there is a restricted direction of travel for segments capability in the beta editor as well. The dates/times are the same as for turns but a restriction for A->B and/or B->A directionality can be set up. This will be useful for roads that may turn into 1-way streets say near a school. I’m not sure if the feature would be of use for the Chicago express lanes though.
Yeah, the express lanes can be tricky. Or do you do a time restriction on the ramps to it. Then you get the problem that CDOT decides to leave the lanes open going in longer because of traffic is heavy.
I don’t think there would be a reliable way to get the Chicago express lanes working, timing is just too random, and honestly, if there is a backup in the same direction the express lane is going (inbound in morning, outbound in evening for example) the express lane is going to be backed up too, and slower even sometimes.
Though perhaps it would be possible to reach out to someone and find out if they have some semblance of set times that they try to reverse them though. Still seems like a lot of work for little reward and a lot more URs though.
Also, I wasn’t able to discern the answer to this in the above posts, but are we able to put in time restricted turns or not yet? I haven’t messed with the editor in a few days, but I was looking at it yesterday and noticed a UR in Libertyville for a “turn not allowed” that turned out to be a simple time restricted turn. (it’s only from 4pm to 6pm so the user was just especially unlucky)
