Forgive me if I am asking a question of old. I have reviewed all the WIKI info on ramps, AGC, abbreviations, street naming, etc etc I can find, and all do not point out how we get New Brunswick from NB in California? Its only 3-4 days drive distance away from here. My wife was born there.
I have a UR where user and myself have both determined the TTS routing to the North Bound onramp at CA241 is incorrect. The exact statement from TTS: “enter Northbound CA241 New Brunswick Toll Road”.
I have checked all the ramp sections and see no mention of New Brunswick. The toll road in its complete 20 mile length has no section called New Brunswick. This is well above my edit level, but I would like to know what could be the driver behind this incorrect labeling, and have it corrected. As well as an learning lesson for myself.
I didn’t create this road of course, and I agree NB could translate to New Brunswick. I looked also through the abbreviations and saw nothing converting to New Brunswick road wise. I will look again, and also quite possibly re evaluate the entire length of the toll road. But I think your right, it is a State Route.
Appreciate the help Taco, Can you assist in getting a level 4 or above to make the change? The user report was just wanting to make note of the TTS for Waze support to correct. I’ll keep an eye on it and field check later after fix. Be nice to confirm the CA is the reason.
Well Taco, I did some more reading and decided to run a test. Driving 79 came over to bail me out. He unlocked and we changed the one on ramp only as a test. However he pointed out more than anything, the NB designation used prior was probably causing the New Brunswick from NB. Even though both of us saw nothing in the Abbrev’s showing it.
So on your recommendation of correcting the CA to SR and the direction now just a single letter identifier, We may have the answer. I will field test in a couple days
Before: to CA241 NB - Toll
After: to SR241 N - Toll
We have at least 4-5 locations to correct at a later date. But no UR’s on those.
Per Highway Naming/USA, California State Routes should have a hyphen, so the correct naming would be
SR-241 N - Toll --which is what it says… watch out for those details, they can make a difference!
If it were desired to announce “northbound” in there for some reason, it should be spelled out, but there are very few, if any, occasions that should ever happen. Interestingly, the SB on the ramp on the other side of the freeway announces “southbound”.
Currently, most (not all) two-letter State and Province abbreviations are expanded to the full name. It is under discussion to alter this behavior some.
Funny that just Saturday night we were coming back up from the Laguna area. We got hungry and headed to Outback down off of LaPaz, and to come home, headed down to Oso and brought 241 back.
It was actually corrected today by a level 5. And as you mentioned it was hyphenated. I will look to the Ca forum next time or the Unlock/update request form. And when I typed the CA to SR, it was done as a for instance, but the lower case “to” and hyphens were all correctly added. I checked the entire length of this toll and found the others were done with single digit direction identifiers. Only this one and another south of there were done different, since all corrected.
The UR creator was amused and just thought to bring to our attention. But I was curious what the SB would have said. I didn’t test drive it that way in the field to see. Noticed it when I got home.
I see that this is an old thread and apologize for resurrecting it, but I am seeing “NB” being translated in-app to “New Brunswick” for onramps “to NB Loop 101 Price Fwy, Tempe, Arizona”
Is there a fix for this? My understanding is that this should be something like “N Loop 101 Price Fwy,” and I would be happy to make the corrections, but it is locked Level 3 and I’m just a lowly L1.
Hi there, this is an interesting conversation and I’m glad I was pointed towards it.
As the champ who also manages poor little New Brunswick on Canada’s east coast I’m sorry our little province is causing these issues for you.
I know that we try our best to match the BGS perfectly and, in this case, rather than the sign stating N it seems that, at times, it says NB. I can also see why it may seem most logical to simply change the TTS to say Northbound rather than New Brunswick. I would like to say, however, that this would have negative consequences for us in the actual NB and may be overkill.
I don’t want to presume to tell anyone how they should be translating their BGS info for Waze, however, in this case, it seems to me that simply using N, rather than NB (even if the BGS says NB) accomplishes the same result without wiping poor little New Brunswick off the Waze TTS map. Failing that, another solution could be to simply write out Northbound where necessary.
I believe that a provincial designation is > a cardinal indicator. I hope that the other champs also agree.
