Community Structure and Management in Israel

Welcome

Below is a description of the administrative structure of the community in Israel as recently updated by the community leaders, based on community management principles practiced in other WAZE communities around the world. This structure provides the community and its leaders with tools that help streamline and improve its professional and social activities, information sharing, and training of various managers.
Map editors can be at levels 1-6, and according to their level, they receive editing permissions. The company allows promotion based on the number of edits, but in Israel where the map is close to perfection, it is impractical to progress based on edit counts, and the conditions for level promotion are detailed in the Edit Level Promotion Scale.

Community Roles

Beginner Map Editor

  • Every user starts at Level 1 when they begin making map edits.
  • The conditions for promotion to Level 2 are described here.

Area Manager

Below is the description of the appointment and promotion process for Area Managers.

  • A Level 2 user who has at least 3 months of map editing experience, continuous activity in the forum, handles update requests, place updates, and has completed official training with the training coordinator (or another experienced editor referred by the training coordinator), can request to become an Area Manager.
  • If the conditions are met, but the training was completed more than 3 months prior, they will need to undergo a brief refresher training with the training coordinator (or someone else as determined by the training coordinator).
  • The role of an Area Manager is to fully look after their management area, handle various update requests, ensure their area remains free of issues and update/change requests, proactively review their area, and resolve problems. It is the duty of an Area Manager to stay updated through the forum on various innovations and to be continuously active in it, both to provide solutions to other users, to seek advice, and to provide informed input on topics raised in the forum. Further details can be found in the Area Manager Guide.
  • If an Area Manager is unable to respond/does not respond within a short period to an update request (and only if the issue is critical for navigation), a country-level manager who is not the manager of this specific area will handle the request themselves.
  • An Area Manager can request a new or expanded management area after at least 6 months have passed since obtaining their last management area.
  • Every few months, inactive Area Managers (due to not handling issues in their management area or lack of continuous activity in the forum) will be pruned, and they may submit their candidacy again. The time for the next promotion in such a case will be determined at the discretion of the leaders, depending on the seniority accumulated before the pruning, the reason for pruning, and how much time has passed since.
  • Area Managers List (you can view the management areas of any manager in this list by clicking on their name, and then clicking on Editor profile).
  • Area Managers List including management area descriptions.

Country Manager

  • An Area Manager promoted to Level 5 automatically becomes a Country Manager.
  • The Country Manager oversees all Area Managers, supports, guides, teaches, and assists them when necessary.
  • A Country Manager can also function as an Area Manager or an Area Manager with countrywide permissions, in which case all job definitions and responsibilities imposed on those roles apply to them.
  • A Country Manager will handle, as much as possible, areas in Israel where no Area Manager is assigned.
  • A Country Manager will be highly active in the forum and try to address issues raised there that are not answered or resolved by other users and managers.
  • If the Country Manager is unable to assist with any issue, they will refer the matter to the community leaders.
  • A Country Manager will be active when assistance is required beyond their routine activity, for example:
    • Mentoring new Area Managers (beyond the one-time minimum requirement),
    • Participating in map editing during โ€œcampaignsโ€ (large requests coming in the forum from leaders or users),
    • Organizing Waze Cafe meetups,
    • Assisting new participants at meetups (buddy system) when there are no Level 3-4 volunteers.
    • Handling orphan national editing issues (not handled by anyone else), such as road closures, events, etc.
  • Country Managers List.

Waze Local Champ

  • A Waze Local Champ will be appointed from among the Country Managers by the community leaders at their discretion, and will be promoted to Level 6 concurrently as mentioned in the Edit Level Promotion Scale.
  • Their role is to represent the community, the management tiers below them, and user requests from the community to the company, as well as the companyโ€™s positions and vision to the user community and the various community management levels.
  • Community leaders will ensure good relations are maintained among community members, including managing social and professional meetups.
  • Community leaders will be active in the forum, help resolve issues raised in the forum that remain unresolved, and be involved in all community affairs.
  • Community leaders will ensure editing consistency is maintained across the entire country. For this purpose, they are the deciding body regarding uniform editing rules and approvals for exceptions, as well as making decisions on fundamental issues disputed in the forum for which there is not yet a rule.
  • Community leaders are the approving authority for promotions in the community (editing levels, new Area Managers, countrywide permissions, and Country Managers).
  • A community leader can also function as both a Country Manager and an Area Manager, in which case all job definitions and responsibilities imposed on those roles apply to them.
  • Community Leaders List.

Waze Global Champ

A community leader selected by the company to take part in matters related to the international community and the companyโ€™s future programs.

Country Manager Emeritus

  • Community leaders/Country Managers with over half a year of seniority since their promotion to Country Manager who have ceased to be active will transition to this status. A Country Manager Emeritus can request to be reappointed as an active Country Manager if they wish. A Country Manager Emeritus whose level later drops below Level 5 will no longer be eligible for this status.
  • Country Managers Emeritus List.

Additional Management Roles

In the future, at the discretion of the community leaders, additional management roles may be introduced that allow promotion to Level 5 as exists globally, such as: Mentor, Expert, Wiki Master, etc.

Best of luck to us all!
